(/EDIT)

Yesterday, President Obama came out and called for strict Net Neutrality regulation by the FCC for the Internet. This, of course, has the big ISPs and cable providers, their paid lobbyists, and the Republicans now in control of both sides of Congress, all in a predictably huge buttmad tizzy.

Sadly, though, I feel that this might be a case of "too little, too late" on the part of Obama, and it will probably be a fight that he will end up losing, much to the detriment of everyone (well, everyone except for the executives, lobbyists, and political cronies of Big Cableā„¢, obviously). Here's to hoping that I am 100% completely wrong with that prediction, and that Obama actually wins this one, because I fully agree with President Obama that Net Neutrality is important and should be imposed. Obama really didn't do himself any favors at all when he appointed that Tom Wheeler asshat as the FCC Chairman a year ago, though, and I fear that's going to be what comes back and bites the President in the ass on this whole thing.

All of this is assuming that Obama truly does care about Net Neutrality, as he claims to, and that this isn't just some politically expedient maneuvering on his part right after the election that his side got trounced in, and all of which will be forgotten about in a week/month or so. Personally, I hope that Obama makes this his one, big, final cause and dedicates the rest of his presidency to it, but I seriously doubt that will end up being the case.
