So they're making a new Terraria game, huh? That's pretty cool.

As for whether it's a sequel or not... does it really matter? I guess it's not a sequel in the sense that it doesn't continue the story of the original Terraria... but then, Terraria doesn't actually have any sort of story to speak of anyway, so that's kind of a moot point. It is a sequel in the sense that it's a new Terraria game, using the name "Terraria," that was made at a point in time after the original Terraria was released, though. Either way... meh. I don't really care whether it is or isn't officially considered to be a sequel. It's a new Terraria game. That's all I care about, really. (EDIT) Ah, so it's more like this is "Terraria Gaiden" instead of "Terraria 2," which will be an actual direct sequel to Terraria, I guess. Which implies that they're planning/working on an actual "Terraria 2" as well. This is not unwelcome news to me, either. (/EDIT)

"Set in an alternate dimension within the Terraria universe, Terraria: Otherworld places the player in a life-and-death struggle to restore a once-pristine world – now overrun by a malevolent force that has corrupted nature itself – to its original splendor," the announcement presser reads.

So, in other words... you're essentially going to be starting this new game in the state where most original Terraria worlds end up? Assuming you kill the Wall of Flesh boss, which allows the Corruption/Crimson and Hallow to spread across the world, that is. That's how all (two) of the worlds in which I've done that have ended up, anyway. This, for example, is a screenshot taken near the original spawn point in the world in which I've spent most of my time (though it's not my original "main" world, which is still not yet in Hardmode). On the left is the Corruption and on the right is the Hallow, which I have allowed to spread right up to the spawn point. That entire world now is like that. But then, my Terraria character is so beefy godlike at this point, though, that having the entire world be Corruption/Crimson and Hallow isn't even an issue anymore. The only things that give me even a little bit of trouble in Terraria at this point are Duke Fishron (though I can fairly consistently beat even him now), the Pumpkin Moon (which I can fairly easily survive, though I haven't been able to reach the highest waves before the night ends yet), and the Frost Moon (which I haven't even bothered to try yet, because I want to be able to master the Pumpkin Moon first, and the Frost Moon is just a more difficult version of that).

In any case, yeah, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one.

Also, people keep mentioning Starbound in the comments, saying that this game seems very similar to that. I still have yet to actually try Starbound myself (mainly because I'm in an "avoid Early Access stuff" phase of my gaming life), so I can't say whether this is true at all or not (and given that we know next to nothing about this new Terraria game, I don't know how these other people can say that either, but then that's how the Internet rolls, dawg). Some are saying Starbound sucks, while others are saying it's actually superior to Terraria... Eh, I still might give Starbound a shot some day as well...
