So, from what I can tell, this whole thing is just an extension of (and precursor to) the same sort of lovely mindset that has brought us GamerGate (and, indeed, I'm seeing a lot of mentions of GamerGate as having a direct connection, involvement, and overlap with the people behind this shit, and vice versa). As for me, I hadn't even heard of this Sad Puppies bullshit until today, when I saw a post on Wil Wheaton's Facebook page (which I follow), which lead to a post on Wil Wheaton's Tumblr page (which I do not follow, except when it is linked to via FB or wherever), which in turn lead to several posts (#1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, (EDIT) #8, and #9, (/EDIT) with possibly more to come) on the Livejournal of George R. R. Martin[1], found here:
grrm (which I didn't even know existed before today). Which finally led me to the first link above that I found when I started searching Google trying to figure out just what the fuck this whole "Sad Puppies" thing is about and what they had to do with the Hugo Awards. Now, as with GamerGate, I find myself kind of wishing I could have remained blissfully ignorant of all that horseshit. -_-
[1] - By complete coincidence, I started reading A Song of Ice and Fire for the first time a month or so ago. I'm currently a little over halfway through the second book. (And, no, I have not seen any of the TV series, nor have I played the video game as of yet. I don't intend to watch/play either of those until I've read all of the available books first.)
