I initially agreed with Ian, and still do for the most part, that this is a terrible idea. However, Pat makes some good points that this maybe won't necessarily be the downfall of Youtube, just as so many other terrible things Youtube has done in the past ended up not being the downfall of Youtube. It's not great, I still think, but it may not be as End Of Days awful as it first seemed. It remains to be seen how easily this will be able to be gamed for the purposes of trolling, but... trolls find a way.
(EDIT) Then again, maybe it would be better if it were the downfall of Youtube, in a way. Otherwise, it is yet another piece of shit terrible idea that simply becomes normalized and accepted and part of the status quo, de facto standard, business as usual bullshit. (E.g. see also, all of the asinine bullshit that the video game industry has done for the past couple decades that I've previously ranted about ad infinitum.) (/EDIT)
