They left about 8:30 this morning, so I guess that means I'm back.
Here's a list of the notable things that went down last week while they were here:
*** On Friday, we went to a Mariners game at Safeco Field. I don't much care for baseball (or sports in general), but it was pretty cool, I guess. Ichiro Suzuki threw one in from right field to Kenji Johjima at home plate to get some Padres guy out. That was probaby the highlight of the game. Oh, and the Mariners won, which was nice.
*** On Saturday, we did most of the usual tourist-y stuff. Went to the Seattle Aquarium, rode the Argosy Harbor tour, ate lunch at Ivar's, wandered around a bit at the Pike Place Market. Then went home.
*** On Sunday, we went to Mount Saint Helens and all the various tourist-y places along the way, most notably Johnston's Ridge Observatory.
*** They went to some places during the week that I didn't go to because I was at work. Woodland Park Zoo, Museum of Flight, etc. I didn't miss it much.
*** On Thursday, we rented X2: X-Men United in preparation for going to see X-Men: The Last Stand on Friday. We also rented Pirates of the Caribbean which was cool.
*** On Friday, we went to see X-Men: The Last Stand. It wasn't nearly as good as the other two movies. That might be understatement to some, but it was okay in my opinion. Not great, but okay. They changed a lot of the story from what was in the comics, which irked a lot of people, apparently. I'm only familiar with the comics enough that I can say "Hey, that's not how it was in the comics" stuff, like "Hey, Juggernaut isn't a mutant" or "Hey, I thought the Phoenix was some cosmic force and not just the repressed sexual urges of Jean Grey." I'm not familiar enough with the comics, however, to get enraged (as some seem to have) over the changes. But even on its own merits, regardless of the comics on which it was based, it still wasn't that great.
*** When we went to the movie on Friday, I made a pitstop at EB Games (which is literally next door to the movie theater) beforehand and picked up Sacred Gold, which some guys at work had gotten a week ago or so and had said it was, basically, the equivalent of Diablo 3. Haven't tried it yet, though, so we'll see. While there, I also noticed that they had a copy of Bad Mojo for $10, so I got that one as well.
*** On Saturday, we went to the Pacific Science Center. While there, I checked out the Game On! thing that was co-sponsored by Microsoft, Nintendo, and DigiPen. A big WTF on that last one, because I hadn't even heard of this thing before, until I just happened to see a billboard for it at Safeco Field. You'd think the school would have at least told the students about it, you know? I don't remember seeing or hearing anything about it anywhere, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention or something. In the end, there wasn't a whole lot to it anyway. They had a lot of games set up in the downstairs part, which was pretty cool. Stuff ranging from Pong, to old arcade games like Pac-man or Galaga, to NES/SNES games, to current (last?) gen games. I played through a quick game of 8-star Street Fighter 2 Turbo with Ken and played the first stage of PaRappa the Rapper 2, but that was about it. Upstairs they had a sort of DigiPen-lite setup, which had a few booths with bare-bones run downs on stuff like game design, physics, art, artifical intelligence, etc. with some instructional/informational videos running in the background, as well. The whole thing probably would have been a hell of a lot cooler had I been 10 or 15 years younger, but it was still fairly interesting. I did sign up for a chance to win a free X-Box 360 or a Nintendo DS, so there was that, at least.
And that's pretty much what I've been doing over the past week or so.
