Yeah... shit like this is why I no longer give video game developers money until they have a completed (and complete, i.e. not chopped up to be sold piecemeal) game for me to buy from them.

Never heard of Paprium before watching that video. Never heard of WaterMelon prior to that video. With that said, however, I do appear to have their previous game, Pier Solar and the Great Architects on Steam, but it looks like I got this as part of a Humble Bundle thing I bought back in 2015 (Humble Weekly Bundle: RPG Edition Book II). I haven't touched that game at all, as of yet, and I sure as shit won't be touching this Paprium thing, even if it ever does actually get released.

Can't say I knew anything about this game, and to be honest I'm not the biggest on brawlers (TMNT and the like not withstanding >_>) so I doubt I'd have been interested in it regardless.

I certainly wouldn't have preordered it. I have Pier Solar, which again I never preordered, although I think I was at least tempted. I have Pier Solar on the PS3 - and I think PS4 as I think it either was or became a cross-purchase at some point. I've barely played it. I'm sure it's fine, but the battle system was a big hard to get into. Maybe I'll give it another chance at some point.

But yeah this kinda shit is one of the reasons I don't preorder anything overall anymore. Not the only reason by far, but certainly the biggest reason that would affect smaller developers where you can't at least be sure there's a good chance they'll eventually finish the game. It's also why I typically ignore anything marked "Early Access" on steam as well. Early Access means pay the highest price tag for the buggiest version of the game. It's like they all saw how successful Minecraft became using an Early Access model and decided to copy it... after inverting the entire process.

Regarding Pier Solar, the version of the game I was tempted to get was their original genesis game. Or was it a 32X game... (basically genesis+addon). Starting to feel like it was 32X. The fun thing about the game design is that there was also a aoundtrack CD included that the game would use if you also had a Sega CD attachment. At the very least it made for a unique retro game, which is why I was tempted. Ultimately though I'm sure it was already delayed several times by the time I discovered the game and decided against it. I think I was going to try to buy the game post-launch, but by then I completely forgot about it until I saw it on PSN in a flash sale.
