Just gonna copy/paste a couple of posts + comments I made on Facebook (edited for formatting and such).

So I finally got around to starting to watch Star Trek: Discovery the other day. Based on the Internet, it seems like it's LIEbrul progressive SJW-agenda nonsense that "ruins Star Trek canon" which "everyone" hates (if you define "everyone" as a small, but determined bunch of MAGAts and alt-right 4chan trolls and white, male, uber-nerds on the Star Trek FB page, that is), apparently? I mean, for one thing, it has a couple of openly gay, mixed race men in a committed relationship and because of that we hates it forever precious, I guess? *shrug+eye roll*
Based on the actual show itself, I like it pretty well, so far. Finished episode 7 of season 1, the second Harry Mudd episode (and the first to focus exclusively on him as antagonist in this show), last night. On the whole, the show is a bit darker, sort of like season 3 of Enterprise or some of the darker DS9 episodes. On the other end of the spectrum, the whole "spore drive" thing is kind of silly, and the fact that a character said "You guys, this is so fucking cool!" at one point is really silly (and mostly just for the same sort of shock value reasons that Riker said "Dammit to hell!" in 1987 and Data said "Oh shit" in 1994), but again, aside from little stuff like that, it's pretty (fucking) cool so far.

Also, I should probably quit looking at the Star Trek FB page for spoiler-related reasons, in addition to the "too many dumbshit assholes in the comments"-related reasons.

On the other hand, regarding the f-bomb, at least it was intended to be a kind of silly bit and was the result of Sylvia Tilly being excited about science stuff, rather than it being due to some big combat-action-man trying to be cool during a fight (or due to two characters boning) or whatever.

After watching season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery, not only would I like to see more of Discovery itself (and I'm pretty sure it has already been approved for a third season, which will be very interesting to see how and where they go with it, given how season 2 ended), but I want a series with Anson Mount as Captain Pike on the Enterprise, too.
Season 1 of Discovery was pretty good (to hell with the haters), and it wasn't as weak as the first seasons of most other Trek shows, but season 2 was way better. Overall a bit too much action for what I want in my Star Trek (though not over-the-top crazy like the nuTrek movies on that point), and a bit too silly at times (though with that said, Sylvia Tilly is probably one of my favorite characters, with newcomer Jett Reno already giving her a run for her money), and at other times a bit too much pathos and High Dramaâ„¢ (or, at least, attempts at such), which is why it isn't my favorite of all Star Trek (at least so far, as it's still only two seasons yet).
Next Generation and Deep Space Nine are still tied for the top spot for me, but I'd say Discovery, so far, is at least as good as Star Trek: Enterprise (which I did not hate at all and, again, to hell with the haters), and definitely better than Voyager (which I mostly didn't hate, except for some parts of it which I really truly hated a whole lot).
The four "Short Trek" episodes were pretty cool, too. My favorite of those was probably "Calypso," weird as it was.
