It is too bloody hot in this office.

Oh well, only 17 more minutes to go before I can go out into the blessed cool and rain.

I went to bed a little after midnight, like I usually do. However, from that point until around a little before 6:00am, I got hardly any sleep at all. I'd doze for maybe 10-20 minute stints, then I'd jerk awake again and look at the clock.

But then around 6:00am, at possibly the worst time, I finally conked out, utterly dead to the world. I didn't even hear my radio come on at 7:20am or so. I don't even know if it actually came on at all, since I didn't wake up until well after the 2-hour auto-shutoff would have kicked in on the radio. That is to say, I didn't wake up until around 10:00am. So, all in all, I only got roughly 4 hours of sleep last night/this morning, maybe 5 if you count the accumulation of all that touch-and-go sleeping I was doing in the hours between midnight and 6:00am. It really sucks.

Needless to say, this made me quite late for work. Only just got in about 40 minutes ago.

I've posted about these dreams before, but I just want to reiterate yet again just how much I detest those things.

My power went out at some point during the night last night, and so I overslept and was late to work by about an hour and a half. Blargh. About an hour before I got up (after my alarm should have sounded), the power came back on, and the sound of my bedroom fan coming back on woke me up, but only partially.

I started dreaming about getting up and getting ready to leave for work. BLARGH.

I only remember the last cycle, but it sucked bad enough to leave me with that "entire day has been ruined" vibe. In it, I woke up in a weird room that was a sort of hybrid of several different houses from North Carolina that I'd been in before. For some reason, the room was filled with clocks (think Doc Brown's lab at the beginning of Back to the Future, where Marty blows himself up with the giant speaker). I was looking around for my bedroom clock, which should have told the real time (as it has a battery back-up), but couldn't find it. All of the other clocks showed random times.

So, I gave up and went into the bathroom. I closed the door and immediately started looking through the peephole (why there was a peephole in the bathroom door, I don't know). Looking back into the room I had just left, I saw a stereotypical Creepy Child standing there with their back to the door. I only saw that for a split second though, because in the next instant, they were standing right there staring into the peephole. That's when I started freaking out and then woke up, feeling like crap.

Still, the worst part of it wasn't the Creepy Child, it was the cyclical false awakening crap. Honestly, I kind of wish I had more dreams with fantastical elements like Creepy Children and whatnot, even if they're nightmares, rather than these crappy mundane things (which I consider to be my real nightmares). At least with the dreams that have fantastical elements like that, I tend to start lucid dreaming, assuming I don't immediately wake up like I did this time.

However, the Internet connection here at work has been really sporadic all morning, thus this is the first chance I've gotten to actually get online to do anything, work-related or not.

This morning as I was getting ready for work, I sat down to put on my socks and shoes and... I'm not sure what happened exactly. I must have turned just the wrong way or something, but my back felt like it just went completely out. I think I pulled a muscle or something, and for a while there I could hardly move at all. And when I did start moving again, it took me around 10-15 minutes just to finish getting my shoes on and tied.

I almost considered calling in again at work, but I've already missed too many days lately for other health related issues to afford missing any more. The actual walk to work seemed to help a bit, and I even managed to make a stop by Safeway to pick up some food for lunch (and a bottle of Bayer Back & Body*). It's not hurting as bad as it was, and I'm not nearly as immobile as I was at first, but still, all in all, this really sucks.

* - Which, as it turns out, has caffeine in it for some reason. So much for my avoidance of all things caffeinated, I guess, though in this case I think it can be forgiven.

It's nice to be back at work again, at least.

(EDIT)

Unrelated to the above, but I'm just going to throw it in here rather than making a new post. I just want to say that I think I'm getting to a point in my life where I hate April Fools Day. Just... the mere concept of it. Also, and more to the point, the fact that you simply cannot go anywhere on the Internet (or, at least, to the places I tend to visit, anyway) without running into April Fools gags that are not at all blatantly obvious or just plain retarded. Then again, the insidious ones tend to be even worse.

...before getting all ranty about the sucky postal service in my last post:

Today was the first day in the new office in downtown Redmond (for everyone, not just me). As far as offices go, it's kind of meh. Not significantly better or worse than the other place. It's a bit more cramped than the old place, but I figure that will get better as we get crap from the move out of the way.

A definite plus, though, is the location. Places to go for lunch are much closer than they were to the comparative middle of nowhere that the other place was. Definitely within walking distance, if necessary. Also, it's only a 20-30 minute walk from where I live. It might be a slight annoyance to carry home groceries the 1 mile or so from Safeway (which is almost next door to the office) than it was from the third or so of a mile from QFC (which is now, unfortunately, on the opposite side of my condo from where I work), but whatever. Though if I did need to use a bus for some reason, such as for groceries, there are stops pretty much right outside the door of the office, as opposed to needing a 10 minutes walk to get to the nearest one at the other place.

And we have a much faster Internet connection at the new place than we did before, which is nice.

New office

I was planning to stay late today, but we all ended up leaving about 45 minutes early to go look at the new office that we'll be moving into at the end of the year. I'll miss the actual process of moving since I'll be in NC at the time, and pretty much the first day back we'll already be in the new place, as far as I know.

It's a fairly nice place, not too different for better or worse than the place we're at now, but the biggest benefit for me is that it's only 3/4 mile from where I live as the crow flies, and walking distance along the roads is less than 1.5 miles. The exercise + the savings on bus fare will be really nice. I like it.

For those familiar with the area, it's right at the intersection of Avondale Road and NE Union Hill Road in Redmond, near the Safeway and such, and only a block or two northeast of Bear Creek park & ride.

My original plan for this week was to work two extra hours each day, Monday through Thursday, and then take Friday off, since that's the day my plane leaves for North Carolina. However, it really sucks staying around after work for two hours by myself. Therefore, I think I'm just going to work an extra hour tomorrow, then one on Wednesday, then a normal Thursday, and then do a half day on Friday. That'll still give me plenty of time to get stuff ready for the trip. Heck, even if I'd worked a full day on Friday, I'd still have had plenty of time to get stuff ready to go, given that the plane doesn't even leave until 11:00pm or so, but it'll be nicer to have more time to just chill at home a bit before having to leave for the airport.

Fail.

Pretty much over the whole weekend, starting when I woke up Saturday morning, I've been down with some cold/flu thing, the whole bit. It has decided to stick around for today as well, even though it's not as bad as it was over the past couple of days. I could have probably gone on in to work if I'd wanted, but I don't want to spread this crap around, so I've already sent in an email. Thing is, though, I was feeling progressively more and more tired as the day progressed on Friday as well, so that may have been the start of this mess even if I wasn't showing full symptoms until Saturday, so I guess it's possible I may have been contagious even then. :/

The heat finally got to me today.

I've been getting by on around 3-4 hours of sleep per night for most of this week, due to not being able to sleep well because of the heat. Today must have been the breaking point. I know I was still awake by at least 5:30 to 6:00 this morning, and when my alarm went off at 7:30am, seemingly only a minute or two after that, I must have just rolled over and shut it off, without even remembering doing so. The next thing I recall is waking up about an hour ago (around 2:30pm).

Last night was the worst, given that it didn't even get below 80 degrees until around 4:00am, according to weather.com, and it was much hotter than that inside my condo, even with the bedroom sealed off from the rest of the condo, the window open, and three fans going. When the lows at night are what the highs during the day are supposed to be, something is really screwed up. Supposedly, though, it's "only" going to be in the 80s during the day tomorrow, which is a bit hotter than normal and which is still too hot for me, personally, but that's worlds better than what it has been earlier in the week, and down in the 60s tonight, so that should be nice finally.

Obviously, I didn't go in to work today due to grievously oversleeping. If I had managed to actually get up and go in I probably would have been no more productive than a zombie vegetable, but the air conditioning would have been nice. On the other hand, I went to see Harry Potter last night at the 8:00pm showing, partially because I hadn't seen it yet, and partially because I wanted to be in an air conditioned theater for 3 hours or so. The movie was good, but while the AC was also really nice, I think it may have simply made it seem that much worse in my condo when I finally got home around 11:00pm and immediately went to bed.

"Oh you won't need AC," said our real estate guy when we asked him about it when I moved out here. "It almost never gets above 80 degrees here in the summer." Ha. Ha ha. Right. It has gotten up in the 90s-100s at some point every summer for at least the past three summers here. Lately, I've been putting frozen water bottles behind the fans, hoping it would blow some marginally cooler air around, but it hardly seems to help at all, annoyingly.

I believe I have mentioned my intense loathing of public restrooms before. Allow me reiterate this.

Just today:

Behind cut for probable TMI. )

So, yeah, I despise public restrooms. Quite a bit.

I missed the past three days of work because I was afflicted again by something mostly identical to this and this. That is, migratory rash plus swelling in the hands and feet. It was slightly different in that the rash and the swelling showed up around the same time (or, at least, I noticed them around the same time), and the hands/feet swelling was around the same time as well. Like before, it made it so I could hardly walk and do much with my hands.

It's all mostly gone now, though, so I should finally be able to go back to work tomorrow. I hope so, because counting tomorrow I will have only worked two days this whole week, which isn't good.

I went in to work and lasted about two hours before giving up and coming home. I was feeling pretty wonky when I first got up this morning, but was hoping it would pass. It didn't, and instead seemed to be getting slowly worse. Head-achy and the general malaise associated with the onset of cold/flu/whatever. I think this is probably it for me for the rest of the week. I'm so tired of this crap.

I was lifting a clothes hamper full of clothes yesterday and apparently pulled a muscle in my back, and was mostly immobile for the rest of the day (well, more so than usual for me on a weekend), aside from managing to hobble a few blocks over to the doctor's office. They told me to just take it easy for a day or two and not move around too much, stay doped up on painkillers, use heat, that sort of thing, which is what I figured anyway, but didn't want to leave anything to chance.

When I woke up today, while it did feel at least somewhat improved, I still can't move much without it hurting, so I'm taking a sick day from work. Hopefully, this will be gone enough by tomorrow that I can move around again at least somewhat. I've missed too many days from work this year due to illness and whatnot already, and it's only the beginning of March. :/

The phrase "the economy is bad" was something that I previously only thought about in the abstract, because it was something that had not yet affected me directly. Until today, that is. Today at work, we had a meeting with all of the employees (10 total). During this meeting, we were told that, for reasons that I won't and can't go into but which basically boil down to "the economy sucks ass right now", 7 of those 10 employees are pretty much out of a job come Monday. This, I think, includes the two higher-up guys who were the ones breaking this news. One of them at least, definitely.

Now, I still actually have my job, at least for the moment, due to the nature of the work that I was doing. Pretty much all that's left now, from what I can tell, is me, my supervisor, and one other guy, at least until things improve, in general. So, like, yay for me and all that I guess, but man... this just blows.

The actual owner of the company, who has been rarely seen in person for the past couple of years or so, is supposedly going to be in tomorrow. For all I know, he may simply decide to just up and fold the company altogether or something, I dunno. *shrug*

Sick

I'm feeling poorly again. This time it's a sore throat and a bit of a fever I think (don't have a thermometer, but I feel strange) which seemed to set in sometime yesterday evening. This is really irritating, as I don't think I've worked a full week since coming back from Christmas vacation. I haven't gotten sick this often since... ever, that I can recall, even as a kid.

I just got home a few minutes ago from a pool party with some of the guys I work with. Pool as in tables, and not as in swimming, because that would just be creepy and weird. There was drinking involved, although I did not partake, for personal reasons that I do not care to discuss here and now. There was eating involved, but I did not partake in that either, though I'm wishing that I had now because I feel kind of crappy at the moment. On the whole, it was pretty cool, but it's not something that I would want to repeat any time soon, asocial being that I am.

Yay it's Friday and the weekend and... oh, wait, I have to go in to work tomorrow. And Sunday. Nevermind.

Blargh

A combination of oversleeping by about ten minutes and reduced holiday bus schedules due to MLK Day means I'm going to be about 30 minutes late to work today.
