"As nationwide protests over the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor are met with police brutality, John Oliver discusses how the histories of policing and white supremacy are intertwined, the roadblocks to fixing things, and some potential paths forward."
It's kind of sad when it's "comedy shows" that are making some of the most sense in times like this, rather than those who have actual power and are in real positions to potentially make things better, yet instead decide to actively make things worse, like, say, Donald Trump, the *ugh*shiver* President of the United States of America. That said, regarding the comedy, unlike Cody Johnston, John Oliver here went much lighter on the forced humor regarding this subject, and I'm glad.
Mr. Oliver touched on different aspects of what's going on that weren't mentioned in the Some More News video (and, vice versa, Some More News discussed things not brought up here). As such, I would, of course, recommend watching both of them (I mean, not like I wouldn't do that anyway). Once again, I find myself really wishing that guys like John Oliver and Cody Johnston and Trevor Noah and such could somehow come together and form some kind of comedic, sense making Voltron. Then again, I guess it's better to have multiple, different sources saying the same things, rather than having them all in one place (and, thus, even more easily ignored by the people who were already going to ignore them to begin with).
Also, I reflexively hoisted my middle finger again when Tucker Carlson's asinine face appeared on my computer screen. Calling Tucker Carlson a "sentient polo mallet" is both an insult to polo mallets and a real stretch of the the word "sentient."
