Pairings/Characters: Wilbur Cross/Charlotte Sweetly, mentioned Charlotte/Ted and Zoey/Sam
Rating: Mature
Length: 2,150 words

Theme: just like canon

Summary: The Honey Festival is supposed to be the best night of the year in Hatchetfield. Unfortunately for Charlotte Sweetly, her husband ditched her, Ted Spankoffski left with another woman, and Bill delivered some bad news. Her night just kept getting worse—and then it got weird. After all, the Honey Festival is a time when things from the Black and White can walk the streets of Hatchetfield, and Wiley's got plans of his own.

Reccer's Notes: Charlotte is a thoroughly underutilized character in the Hatchetfield canon, and this fic reads exactly like how a Charlotte-centric episode of Nightmare Time might play out - down to using the script formatting. This has also really gotten me interested in Charlotte/Wiley as a pairing.

When the world begins to crawl with unnaturally made monsters, the Keeper crew continue to fight like they always have. But a wrench is thrown in those plans when they themselves become less than human.
Reccer's Notes:
Although this is a complete AU in that it's a wingfic, the author's writing style is very familiar to canon and I genuinely mix up scenes from this fic with canon because I love it so much! The focus on the friendship dynamics between all the crew is excellent.

As Jesse and Petra go on new adventures throughout the world and visit new lands, they come across a village- but not with the usual inhabitants that they've come to expect from villages and towns. But even in these new lands, remnants of a crisis one thought long past linger.
Reccer's Notes:
A super sweet little oneshot that incorporates a fun Minecraft mod and newer Minecraft versions near-seamlessly into a continuation of the main characters' adventures. Fits into post-canon and has callbacks to the first season.

I've been working with my cover designer Ammonia on the cover for Dollshops & Deathmages. I'm on the fence about the doll on the cover because we've had trouble finding one that doesn't look out of place, and I'm still not sure whether this one will do. Would it be better without the doll? With just Melna and Clariel on the cover?

I'd also like to ask for book recs! I've recently been reading Judith A. Lansdowne's historical romances (mostly on the Internet Archive, as only her first book, Amelia's Intrigue, is digitized and on the Zon). Her heroes are sweet with a streak of mischief, and I'd love to read more romances with heroes like that instead of the usual run of rakes historical romance seems to prefer. Fantasy romance recs would be lovely too, and if they're indie books that's a plus. Only contemporary is a harder sell for me. Tangential, but I'm appalled that Judith A. Lansdowne's books are out of print! As appalled as I am by most of Richmal Crompton's William series being out of print. You'd think publishers don't want to delight the masses.

This is not an admin post, in the sense that it is not going into the rules. Nor is it meant to diminish anyone's enjoyment of the community. But since I am unable to respond directly to a former community member because I have no avenues to do so, I will talk about community involvement and commenting in [community profile] 100words.

Every community is different. Some people use Dreamwidth for personal journals only. Some use it to share their thoughts or creative works with others. Some come here hoping to find people to talk to and engage with. Some want to limit their involvement in very specific ways. Those are all valid choices.

In [community profile] 100words, your creative works, however you write them, are your own. But when you choose to share your work in this community, it is meant to be a communal activity. That is why AI works are not permitted here; they do not represent your words, and as the moderator I do not feel that it is fair to readers to post AI works here and pretend that they are your words.

Likewise, the communal aspect here requires that when you post here, you do not turn off comments. Perhaps I should have made that clear before, but it has never come up in the past. When it did come up today, I added it to the guidelines and made a post about it. I also did not delete any posts that transgressed a rule that had not formerly been elucidated. I attempted to reach out to relevant community members and, when that was not possible, I set a reminder for myself to give anyone who needed to change their posts 24 hours the opportunity to do so. I should have made that clear in my admin post today.

You have the choice to participate in the community. It is not a right. You never have the right to be abusive towards authors or readers here.

That being said, written communication is imperfect. Without tone of voice, without facial expressions, without the many indicators of a person's intent, and without knowing the concerns or triggers or history of the person consuming your written communication, it is impossible to perfectly transfer meaning.

Is there a perfect way to transmit meaning? Probably not. But behaving "in a civilized manner" in this particular community means accepting that when you participate here, you act politely and assume a general level of good intent. If you don't like someone's response to your creative work, perhaps you are misunderstanding their comment. Perhaps they did not express themselves well. It really does not matter as long as you all behave in a mature fashion.

As the only moderator of this community, I cannot put myself in timeout. But if you have a problem with me as a commenter, please initiate a discussion with me. Responding in an abusive way to my comment, deleting my comment and your response, turning off comments on your post, and not allowing private messages from me means that I have no ability to engage with you as a community participant in a way that can make this a safe space for everyone.

You don't have to agree with my point of view to be a member of this community. You will abide by the rules if you choose to participate.

Hello, all! An addendum to the rules for the community:

Commenting is welcome here. Commenting is encouraged, but not required. I'm sure you all understand how to behave with civility in public.

However, you may not post in this community and disable comments on your post. Your post will be deleted. This is a community, not a personal journal or an archive. If someone leaves you a comment that you feel is inappropriate, please bring it to the attention of the mod if it has not already been addressed.

Thanks!

So I had my friends over today for one last hangout before I'm leaving for the psych ward, it was fun. Mostly. Except for one particular event...

F had spotted that I had all the Star Wars films on Blu Ray (I forgot we even had them) and he suggested watching the first chronological one (4th film I think). He's been trying to get me to watch Star Wars for a while and we had nothing better to do so I agreed. Since we could use the Xbox as a player, I booted it up and was immediately greeted by my ex-girlfriend's Xbox profile that I haven't seen December. I'm not proud to admit it, but I just got up and ran away. Now I did need to get the controller from my room first anyways, but god the way my heart sank so fast seeing the fucking purple pineapple profile picture again. I just got hit with all the memories of spending my summer gaming for hours with them or by myself with games their game pass provided. And then in December it all just...poofed...

This was not helped by the fact that I recently met up with their other ex-boyfriend whom I've since befriended. We went out and got drunk in St. Stephen's Green (Classic Irish summer activity) and got food later. I did throw up in the bathroom of the place we went to, but that was a first and I'm never getting that drunk again *shudder*. Anywhooo, when we were catching up, M told me that a week or two after we broke up, our ex-gf messaged his brother on Xbox to ask M to unblock them đź’€ HWATTT??? Bro couldn't even wait a whole month before messaging their last ex, wat da fack. But it gets better just you wait; Two weeks prior to meeting with me, M was with his rock climbing friends on the 44 bus (FUCKKK the 44 bus), which is the main bus to and from the area where my ex lives (they live in bumfuck nowhere, halfway up a mountain). There isn't normally a risk of bumping into them on the bus because they mostly live in Galway now for university, however M got really unlucky and our ex was there. They approached him and then ASKED TO BE UNBLOCKED AGAIN. GIRL. TAKE A FUCKING HINT. Obviously M said no, they were blocked for a reason and then proceeded to introduced our ex as "a friend's ex", which is not entirely false, but I also completely understand not wanting to be associated with that pathetic lump.
M also told me, according to O, that our ex seems really lonely nowadays. Now I don't consider myself an actively malicious person, but I will say that did warm my heart slightly. Rot in hell, bitch ❤

So do you understand why I'm annoyed at myself running away at the vague memory of my ex now? They have only got more and more pathetic as time's gone on and all the new information I've learnt of them afterwards paints them in a very poor light, and yet I still got sad and withdrew myself from the situation. Where's your rage?? RISE. RISE.

Reccer's Notes:
A story starting off from the ending of Tron: Legacy, which follows Rinzler journeying across networks and being discovered by some human hackers in the process. Serves as an alternate canon continuation with a great premise and some fun Sam/Quorra in the background near the end. Although this fic is marked as complete, it is abandoned/discontinued, so if you hate cliffhangers, be warned.

A script format retelling of Act 1 of the Protomen as a stage play, packed with references to the Orestia and Act 2 of The Protomen. Deals heavily with themes of generational trauma, cyclical revenge, and family issues, while following the canon story. As heartbreaking and beautiful, if not more, than the original album, plus, there's a great video podfic version also available on the Archive!

+ There's going to be a new Vatican Miracle Examiner novel released next month. Apparently this one involves an exorcism?? Which makes me really wonder how it will shake out, because normally "supernatural" things in VME are explained as actually being (dubious, scifi-ish) science and/or cocaine (or both). ...Anyway, seeing the announcement made me remember back when the fandom was more active, and there were people translating and whatnot. Ahh, I miss it! It's too bad we didn't get a second anime season.

+ IIHF just wrapped up, and apparently Norway beat Canada for bronze. Norway? Beating Canada at hockey? What on earth is happening? Congrats to them though, but like. Very surprised. They must have a really good team this year I guess!

+ Speaking of the above, Ifindus at Tumblr did a silly Hetalia fanart about it: That should have been a red card, right?

+ I started watching True Detective: Night Country. Mysteries and horrible murder in the arctic, hell yeah. The only thing surprising is that it took me this long to get around to it. I really like the female main character duo. Of the True Detective series, I've seen season 01 and enjoyed it, seen season 02 and was bored by it, and couldn't be arsed with season 03. So, I'm not sure how I'll feel about this - having only watched two episodes at this point - but so far I'm having a pretty good time.
