A post on Whatever. It is a post in which Mr. Scalzi copy/pastes a Twitter thread he made about a Facebook post he saw, neither of which I ever would have seen otherwise (and I still haven't seen nor care to see the FB thing), so it's good that he made that post.
In addition to everything Mr. Scalzi said in that post, there's also the fact that any potential "fans" you may lose by expressing an opinion on politics are probably fans you're better off without (or, perhaps, they are better off without you, depending on what the opinion you expressed happened to be), regardless of any potential loss of income as a result of it. In the increasingly unlikely event that I ever finished writing a book and then I published that book and then a bunch of Trumpanzees cried out about never buying my book because I call Trumpanzees Trumpanzees, or whatever, I would be glad of that, rather than lamenting not getting their money. Also, fuck 'em, because they wouldn't deserve to read my book. *nods sagely* ¬_¬ (And if they ended up reading my book anyway, via nefarious means, then... that's great, too, I guess? They still read my book, in that case, even if they didn't pay for it, which is still a win for me, in a way. They wouldn't have spent money on it, one way or the other, but they still made the effort to read it, so... ...hell if I know. *shrug*)
On top of that, I simply wouldn't want a bunch of Trumpanzees singing my praises for any reason, in the first place, whether it's because they liked my book or whatever else, because I feel like that would reflect badly on me, just on general principle. Because, like, if I found out a bunch of Trumpanzees had really enjoyed my book for some reason, regardless of any other considerations, that would kind of make me begin to wonder what I was doing wrong, you know? o_O
