She and her supporters claim that she "misspoke" and that what she really meant to say was-
No.
No, she did not misspeak. At "best," she "misspoke *wink*wink*nudge*nudge*." It was intentional; never doubt that.
What this was is simply yet another example in an increasingly long string of examples from over the past half decade and more of the fact that the GQP has just stopped bothering to sanitize/sugarcoat what has been their platform for the past half century and more. The dog whistle became the bull horn. Or, perhaps, air raid siren would be more appropriate nowadays.
And the reason they've stopped sanitizing/sugarcoating their blatant racism and misogyny and homophobia and transphobia and xenophobia and so on and so forth is because they don't have to sanitize/sugarcoat that shit anymore. Hell, if anything, it's like the more they don't and the more they just straight up say the quiet parts out loud, the more support they get from likeminded shitgibbons, these days, rather than less. It's not like people who are diehard Trumpublicans (though this has been a thing since long before Trump ever came down that escalator in 2015) are suddenly going to stop and say "Whoa, she didn't really mean 'white life' did she?" No, they're going to cheer her even more for it, and maybe chastise her for even half-assedly trying to sanitize/sugarcoat it after the fact. When a GQP politician explicitly and brazenly derides the rights of women (even if she was a woman, in this case), or of people of color (even if they are a person of color), or of gay people (even if yadda blah, etc.), or of trans people (etc.), or of foreign people, or of non-Christian people, that's not going to lose them very many votes and will, in fact, gain them that many more. And when the politicians feel free to say shit like this, then so, too, do their voters feel free to say shit like this. Which then merely cycles back around and emboldens the politicians to say it all the more, too.
