Yeah, Toastie sucks shit. I'm sure there are easy cheesy strategies for doing well with him, but I haven't figured them out yet (or else I haven't gotten lucky enough with upgrades on level ups to get all the shit I want to try yet, in the dozen or so times I've tried playing Toastie), and I don't feel like looking anything up right now. The highest I've gotten him, so far, is probably somewhere in the level 20-30 range, a far cry from level 100 and especially from the level 200 you need to wreck Death. (Hell, I haven't gotten anyone to level 200 yet. The highest I've gotten is still in the 140-160-ish range.)
I'll probably be taking another week or two break from Vampire Survivors, or until the next update or whatever. I've already unlocked everything that I'm aware of, and if there's anything I don't know about yet, I'd just as soon remain in the dark for now. Might even be approaching the point of "Nah... I'm done, time to uninstall," honestly.

For the xping though yeah, once you get Gorgeous Moon maxed, it'll be creating extra xp and collecting everything for you, the evolved holy water creates a pretty intense damage field if you're not moving around, and of course you get the attract orb maxed out as well so it just sucks up everything.
On top of that I use the Arcana that draws the orbs and map items into a circle around you every 2 minutes. Between that and attract orb you'll miss very little xp.
I guess the key is to get the pentagram maxed as fast as possible so it stops destroying all the orbs around you. Once it gets high enough though you don't even need the clovers.
That's my current strategy for getting past lv99 at any rate. To get past 200 I think I just need to make sure I have the fire wand +
cloverspinach as an extra weapon, with the arcana that lets it bounce up to 3 times. That'll probably cause enough damage to blast away more enemies in that final 1-2 minutes.no subject
Date: 2022-07-02 05:57 am (UTC)From:As for Toastie, the only thing he's got going for him is that he gains enough health at level 100 to become practically invincible to everything but (regular) Death and then at level 200 he gains even more health and enough armor/defense to basically be able to fight Death toe to toe, especially if you use armor boosting upgrades (and combine the Tiragisu with the Arcana that increases armor when you revive). It's just that at any point prior to level 100, Toastie will probably die in 1-3 hits, at most, depending if you've gotten health/armor boosting stuff (without any upgrades, Toastie has a grand total of 1 hit point).
For the other characters, I don't know what, if anything, changes about them if they hit level 200. Nothing, as far as I'm aware, aside from whatever usual stuff they get from leveling up.
And I'm not sure what happens if you kill Death with a level 200 Toastie but without the Infinite Corridor, since having that is required for the White Hand to show up (and for Golden Eggs to drop from Death when it dies). I guess it would just run forever, until you got tired and manually quit. In any case, it would still take a long-ass time to kill a Death like that, given they have a crazy amount of hit points. That said, apparently there were ways to cheese Death even before Toastie or the evolutions for Laurel and Clock Lancet were a thing. I never bothered trying any of the ones I saw, because they looked tedious and exhausting (kind of like trying to play as Toastie in the first place, honestly).
For me, whenever I play it again, I think my strategy for trying to reach level 200 (with other characters, just in general, not with Toastie) will be to actually make the Curse stronger, i.e. getting and maxing out all of Skull O'Maniac, Torrona's Box, Gold Ring, and Metaglio Right. I've already bought all the Curse available in the Powerup shop. (And... apparently the Golden Eggs can permanently increase Curse for the character that picks it up... hrm...) More enemies means more xp, after all. Just have to be able to kill the enemies at that point, is all. >_>;
