Follow up to this.

Yeah... no, I think D&D is done. Or, at the very least, Wizards of the Coast is done. Even if they did a full 180° reversal on this bullshit at this point, too much damage has already been done. Nobody can trust them now. They're finished.

That's not to say that WotC won't continue to linger on for another few years after all of this, but it's pretty much been zombified at this point. It's dead, even if it's still marginally ambulatory. In any case, if WotC hasn't actually killed itself with this, Hasbro will be the one to put the metaphorical gun to the back of its head and pull the trigger, sooner or later. (This, despite the fact that it was explicitly Hasbro who infected WotC with Solanum to begin with.)

The final nail in the coffin will be if/when Critical Role rides out their various contracts and ends their association with WotC/D&D Beyond/whatever and moves on to a different system for their next campaign, if not sooner. Maybe back to Pathfinder again, since that's what they were using for their home game, pre-streaming, before they switched to D&D 5th Edition, mainly because 5E was supposedly more simplified compared to Pathfinder. Granted, there is no guarantee that Critical Role will do anything of the sort... but I hope they will.
