Mr. Scalzi makes some excellent points here.

I've been finding that I'm writing about it far less than I used to, as well. For every one post I make here about some political article I saw on my Google News app or whatever, there have been dozens of stories that I've seen that I could have written about, but instead just rolled my eyes at the banality of it and just moved on with my day. Lately, it mostly has just been the truly bizarre stories that have prompted me to write something about them (and usually when they also tie into the video game industry in some way).

So, it's not that politics have become less utterly ridiculous. It's just that the utter ridiculousness has become the norm, rather than the exception, and I (and Mr. Scalzi and many others) are just fucking sick and tired of it all. And I sure as shit ain't getting paid to write about it, either.

(Honestly, I don't think politics will ever go back to anything even remotely close to "normal" while Donald Trump is still alive, despite the apparent waning of his popularity, even among his more ardent supporters. Fortunately, Trump is old and hopefully won't be around for too much longer.)
