"Microsoft 'lost the worst generation to lose' with Xbox One, says Spencer."
Well, gee, I wonder why?
"Because of this, and languishing in third place, Microsoft decided instead of fighting a console war, it would instead focus on the cloud and subscription services like Game Pass with its new generation of consoles."
(Emphasis mine.)
Oh, right. That's why.
Yeah, even rumors of dumbshit like that is what forever killed any interest I may have had in the X-Bone, even if they may have ended up backpedaling on (at least some of) the dumbshit. I have, at least, considered getting one or more of the competing consoles (e.g. PS4, PS5, Switch, etc.) in the years since I got rid of all my older ones (even if I haven't actually done so yet), but not once have I even entertained the very remote possibility of buying another Microsoft console, nor will I ever do so, all because I was so soured on even just the concept of the X-Bone, along with this continuing dumbfuckery about "the cloud" and "subscription services" being baked into their later consoles or whatever the hell.
May Microsoft forever continue to languish in third place. Or, even better, get out of the console business entirely and spare us all their stupid bullshit.

Date: 2023-05-07 04:52 pm (UTC)From:Subscription services wouldn't be able to save them in my eyes as I -still- ignore everything to do with the console. This is easy for me to do however as most of the games that are exclusive to the Xbox series are for games that I have absolutely no interest in to begin with, and I'm done with trying to deliberately split cross-platform games between systems just to justify having both. (My PS3/360 era tactic since there were at least 2-3 games on the 360 I wanted to get back then.)
I'm losing interest in Sony these days as well though - it's been years and there's STILL not a single game on the PS5 that I feel like I -must- play, let alone 10 games that I feel I could buy that'd justify the purchase. (The scalping bullshit that's been going on these last couple years also certainly helped my disinterest as I ain't buying fuck all from a scalper.)
The only future console I'd consider at this point is probably whatever Nintendo is going to put out but that's on a bit shaky ground as well since it'll all depend on what they do for a followup console. They change shit up so much each generation usually that it'll be easy for me to change my mind and not want what they offer.
And this is all before we take into account the increasing cost of the new release games. While that is a staggering 70 bucks I believe in the US, it's going to be 89.99 in Canada. (Like the new Zelda game is set to be.) With Nintendo refusing to put shit on sale for the most part, and more importantly their jump into hacking up their games to have DLC/expansions like every other dev out there nowadays... yeah I might be done with them too. ^^;;
Never thought I'd get to this point regarding consoles, but the modern video game industry has gotten to the point I predicted it'd be long ago - a PC game system with the best of console features removed (complete games that just work) with the worst of the PC games (buggy incomplete games at launch, subscription requirements, online requirements, DLC hell).
And naturally the best of PC games is not in consoles, and the worst of consoles is still there (inability to mod for instance, lack of mouse/keyboard options I suppose, etc)
If you don't see me ranting about video game bullshit anymore, just remember it's because I'm getting to the point where I'm just done with the entire industry, not that I've accepted all the bullshit they've put gamers through this last decade+. ^^

Date: 2023-05-07 10:48 pm (UTC)From:If I sat down and looked at a list of games for them, I could possibly find stuff on the PS4/PS5 that I'd play if I had one. But aside from, say, The Last Guardian, I really can't think of even one other PS4/PS5 game off the top of my head that I would bother with. Oh, maybe Bloodborne, I guess. So that's two. I ain't buying a $300-$600 console just for two games (depending on if I went for a PS4 or a PS5, though those are both PS4 games which I'm not even sure are available on/compatible with PS5 at all).
