(Disclaimer: only a very small part of the above video is about the disgusting DLC prices. I couldn't have cared less about the "lack of lobbies is weird" thing or the "new game should have just committed to 2v2" thing.)
Yeah, and this is why I haven't cared about Mortal Kombat since MK9 (aka Mortal Kombat) which came out in 2011, 12 years ago. Well, that and the fact that most of the games since then have been contaminated with the Denuvo malware on release, with MK12 (aka Mortal Kombat 1) being no exception to that. Modern day Mortal Kombat is a textbook example of everything wrong with the modern video game industry. (Not that Capcom/Street Fighter or any other fighting game devs/series is any less guilty of this horseshit these days.)
The only interaction I've had with the Mortal Kombat series since 2011 has been to occasionally watch Youtube compilations of the various games' story mode cutscenes, which typically (thankfully) leave out the fighting game bits in between, and I figure the same will be true of MK12's story mode, as well, whenever such compilations become available.

Date: 2023-09-29 07:31 pm (UTC)From:Here's what the costs are for a Canadian to get the base game and it's 7 DLCs. (Keep in mind I'm rounding everything up 1 penny so that the math is easy.)
The Base game: $90.00
DLC: Kameo Unlock Pack: $30.00 (This is for shit that's unlockable in the game. How fucking hard is it to unlock it to make this attractive?!)
DLC: Kombat Pack: $50.00 (Extra characters.)
DLC: Shang Tsung: $10.00 (For those of us simps that missed the preorder bonus.)
DLC: Havik: $10.00 (Extra character, unlockable in the game. Again WTF for an unlock.)
DLC: One-Time Dragon Pack: $6.00 (In game currency. You can buy this ONCE, which is highly suspicious.)
... and that's it, for what's limited! You're not counting incorrectly. THERE IS NO DLC 6 OR 7 LISTED. Despite saying there's definitely 7 DLCs for the game. I personally suspect the other two are probably repeat purchasable Dragon Krystals (The in-game currency) but at a higher price tag. Your first hit isn't even free anymore. I'll have to update at some other time perhaps once the other DLC actually shows up in the lists.
So the current price tag $195.95 for a Canadian. (To take those extra pennies back out.)
But "Video games are too cheap!" some CEOs like to say.
*update*
I noticed the preorder character is "Mostly Negative" reviewed on steam. Checking a few of the reviews, apparently this guy is "obviously part of the base roster, just cut out to sell as extra dlc for anyone who didn't preorder". The guy even has a chapter in the story mode and you play as him even if you didn't pay up or get the preorder. Meaning it's definitely an unlock code, not a real download. So yeah, extra scummy - and a tactic that use to be very common in the earlier days of DLC. So I'm surprised they even attempted that given how often it results in... well, massive negative feedback. Yeah, game on ignore for all time.
