Terraria: Getting biome keys.
Mar. 21st, 2022 06:41 pmSince last time, I found that the "fastest" way to get biome keys is to create a temporary world, then harvest a shit-ton of whatever blocks you need to create a biome (snow/ice for Tundra, sand for Desert, etc.) and then completely replace the forest biome at the natural spawn point (all of which is why I say "fastest," in "not really" quotes). Then build a little house for yourself at the spawn point. After all of that, drop down to the Underworld long enough to kill the Wall of Flesh and convert the temp world into Hardmode. Once you've got all of that interminable setup out of the way, go to your little house at spawn, plop down a Water Candle (if you have one), plop down a Garden Gnome (if you have one), quaff a Battle Potion (if you have one), quaff a Luck Potion (if you have one, and the more powerful the better, obviously), and then, if you have the proper summoning items, summon either a Goblin Army, Pirate Invasion, or (if it is night) a Blood Moon. You could probably do it with a Solar Eclipse or a Martian invasion, too, but unlike the others, those spawn enemies that can attack through walls, so it's not ideal. That said, it is really helpful to have your own way to attack through walls, though, such as a Legendary Flying Dragon in my case.
After doing all of the above to create a Desert, I got a Desert Key a bit into the second Pirate Invasion. I'd also done the same thing before that in a different temp world, but for a Tundra biome to get the Frozen Key, and it wasn't quite as fast, but nearly so. So now, except for the Corruption Key (which, apparently, is supposedly "easy" to get just by farming the Eater of Worlds) for the Scourge of the Corruptor (which I might or might not bother with, haven't decide yet), I've gotten all of the Dungeon Chest items (including the Vampire Knives[1] from a Crimson world, as I've mentioned before).
Now, as per usual, all that's left is to maybe farm Duke Fishron a few more times to get the rest of his stuff, set up for and complete the Pumpkin and Frost Moon events and get all I want from those, kill the Empress of Light (which I haven't done yet) a few times to get all of her (normal) stuff, maybe try to get a Terraprisma from the daytime Empress (which apparently takes a lot more setup to "safely" complete than I'm willing to do at the moment, especially after all the other setup shit I've already done for the above), and then, lastly, do the Lunar Events and kill the Moon Lord a few times to get all of the stuff I want from those. Except for the Empress of Light stuff (since she's a new boss that wasn't in the game when I played it a few years ago), I've done it all before. And, of course, start over in an Expert world and do it all again (and then again in a Master world). Last time I played it, I got as far as that "start over in Expert" step before I just quit and moved on to other games. We'll see how that goes this time, I guess.
[1] - Which I hardly even fucking use anymore, despite how relatively annoying they were to acquire, now that I have that Flying Dragon from the Old One's Army event. And then the Flying Dragon itself will most likely be replaced soon enough with a Zenith. Hell, except for an Enchanted Sword, Meowmere, and Star Wrath, I already have (or can easily craft) all the swords I need to make a Zenith.
