"Roguelike" or "Rogue-lite"
Mar. 24th, 2022 11:49 amThese days, it doesn't matter how good a game looks otherwise, I'm to the point now where if I'm reading the description of a game and I see the phrases "Roguelike"[1] or "Rogue-lite" showing up prominently in that description, that's the point at which I immediately nope out entirely.
And it's getting close to that point with the "Souls-like" descriptor as well.
[1] - And yeah, my opinion of the term is roughly the same now as it was then. I don't necessarily hate it on its own merits, per se, in the increasingly very rare circumstances in which it is used appropriately, but I do hate how utterly overused it has become, to the point that the term essentially has no useful meaning now.
