"Yu Suzuki Working On Shenmue Town"

Not that I care except to rant about it, though, because as I've already said, I don't want something that is "less of an actual online game and more of a social space with minigames" (assuming it even becomes available for Western gamers, and if it doesn't, it won't be any sort of loss in my eyes).

I want Shenmue III.

I don't want MMO Shenmue.

I don't want some gaiden Shenmue thing that is mostly unrelated to the main series (though, that said, it could work if done well, i.e. they make it more like an actual Shenmue game and not like this crap here).

I don't want "less of an actual online game and more of a social space with minigames." And to reiterate, I don't even want "an actual online game" at all, for that matter.

I. Want. Shenmue. Three.

That is all.

The only marginally good thing about this whole deal is that it shows that Sega hasn't altogether abandoned Shenmue, which seemed to have been the case until now, given that Shenmue II came out almost nine years ago and there's been nary a peep out of them since then (aside from Ryo being put in that racing game, but that doesn't much count). Therefore, there is still the tiniest of hopes that maybe we will see a true Shenmue III at some point in the next decade or two.

Consider how long it took Doom 3 to come out! But then I think they were openingly saying they were working on Doom 3 all along. >_>

Speaking about ID Software here obviously. ;) Point being that much time can easily fly by between sequels. The earliest delayed sequel I can remember is River Raid II on the 2600. There was a gap of about 6 years between that and the first game. Not that sequels were that common back then.

But then Duke Nukem Forever actually came out too!

But it kind of sucked ass.

So maybe that's still not a very good example for Shenmue 3 to follow after all.

As far as Shenmue III is concerned, I'd actually heard news, or at least rumors, a few years ago that Sega had indeed simply dropped it altogether, and Yu Suzuki was looking at other formats to get the story completed, such as manga or a novel or some such. I hoped then that it wouldn't come to that and I still hope now it doesn't come to that.

I want my Shenmue III, dammit.

Kind of like what ended up happening to Penny Arcade Adventures (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6254256.html), but on a much bigger scale (as much as I liked the Penny Arcade game, it's not to the scale of Shenmue by any stretch).

But then, even the Penny (http://www.rainslick.com/about/rspd1) Arcade (http://www.rainslick.com/about/rspd2) games came back in game form, though that form was somewhat (http://www.rainslick.com/about/rspd3) different (http://www.rainslick.com/about/rspd4) from what had come before.

But with that said, in the case of Shenmue, I don't know that I would accept a 16-bit-looking version as being preferable to just not having anything at all. I would, however, accept a Shenmue 3 that looks like Shenmue 1 and 2, even if they didn't upgrade or improve the graphics to today's standards at all.
