Shocking Swerve: The huge mega-publishers are bad for the video game industry.

Found the following two links via today's Penny Arcade (in response to this current event). The articles themselves are a month or two old, though.

As Tycho says, none of this stuff is anything new. That's just the way it is these days. Doesn't make it right, of course, just that this is how it is. The only thing surprising about this Duke Nukem Forever fiasco was that the moron in question was brazen enough to publicly tweet about it. I very seriously doubt that 2K Games would have had any problems whatsoever with the methods practiced by the Redner Group had the Redner Group not stupidly said out loud that that's what they were going to do, though.

(As far as Duke Nukem is concerned, I've had little use for the character or the games he stars in after he literally made good on his threat to "rip your head off and shit down your neck" to the boss at the end of one of the episodes of Duke Nukem 3D. From the way it sounds, Duke Nukem Forever is even worse in that sense, if that's even possible. Oh wait, no, it's absolutely possible. *sigh* Whatever happened to the good old days?)

Ah good, that's one less blog I have to post. I was considering saying pretty much the same thing as Tycho although I probably would have said it a bit angrier. I'm not sure who I'd be more angry with tho, although it might be the gamers themselves - most of which don't seem to understand, or willfully disregard, that this is how business works in the video game review field.

And they continue to make their purchases based primarily on what a game got for a review, or worse, tries to piss on me for playing something that only got a 6-7 rating such as Red Ninja: End of Honor.

For the record Red Ninja is not a perfect game but I feel it deserves far better than the 6-7. ;)
