I tried it for a bit, got killed by an Enderman (which wasn't anything even remotely near as brown-pants-scary as all the speculation and rumor made like it was going to be... maybe they'll be scarier in the final release, perhaps with some freakish sound effects or something), and then just decided that I'll wait for the official update. Actually, I'll probably end up waiting for 1.9 before I think about trying to seriously get back into it, since the townie NPC characters apparently won't be in until then, even if the towns themselves are in the 1.8 version.
