Packing unlock codes for a game with a product that is decidedly not the game. Also, this is exclusive to the PS3 version. And exclusive to Best Buy. It's bad enough when this crap is being used as retailer-specific pre-order incentives for the game itself, but now this too?

So, to reiterate: if you don't buy the PS3 version of Arkham City... and you don't buy the Green Lantern blu-ray... at Best Buy... then you don't get this piece of the game that they cut out for explicitly this reason. Fortunately, in this case, it's just yet another crappy skin that I don't care about, but still, it's the principle of the thing. And then, on top of that, Joystiq says that the thing probably won't even remain exclusive anyway, so what's the point in buying the blu-ray to get it in the first place?

The video game industry continues to spiral ever farther down the toilet.

I'm pretty sure I've said it before, but in case there are new people viewing this article that missed every other time I've mentioned it: This is why you're suppose to kick up a shit BEFORE it affects things you care about. Because if you don't, the game companies take it as a "oh hey, they don't mind it! LETS DO IT SOME MORE AND GO A FEW MORE STEPS!!!"

Glad I didn't buy this game in particular. Apparently it's DLC milking is pretty extensive even without trying to force you to buy movies.

Since Sony owns the blu-ray format, I can see why they would want to encourage blu-ray sales (And the associated licensing fees they would receive for using the format.)

Doesn't mean I approve however.

Like I said last time, they're still a couple of years behind Japan in DLC stuff like this, haha.

But I just can't get too worked up over something like this when it's as small as a skin or costume -- it doesn't strike me as significantly different from any other small bonus you might get (a trading card, figurine, whatever).

Do they do this with more than just skins and such in Japan? I don't want the American game industry to get as bad as them. It's already plenty bad enough as it is right now.

Well, they do it with non-DLC stuff like figurines and calendars or whatever. DLC-wise I guess I haven't yet seen anything beyond costumes.
