Warning the below post contains more Critical Backlash against Twilight haters.
Points #7, #3 and to a lesser extent #4 in this article are exactly why I'm sick of all the banal Twilight bashing I have been subjected to on at least a weekly basis, never-ending, pretty much ever since the first movie came out. It's not so much that the Internet as a whole is bashing Twilight that is the problem, in and of itself. Not liking Twilight is a perfectly valid opinion to have, and I'm not arguing against that at all. No, what bothers me is how pretty much everyone who bashes it seems to fall into one of two extremes. They either act as if they've somehow discovered that the world is round while everyone else still believes it is flat and that they should be crowned high king of the Internet for bringing the light of truth to our veiled eyes, or they seem to believe that everyone else in the world is necessarily going to agree with and, indeed, heap praise upon them for holding the exact same opinion that they have seen others display (and in far too many cases, irritatingly, they are actually correct to hold that belief, because they do get heaped with praise simply for being person #923,574,861 to claim that Twilight blows). Regardless of which of these categories one falls under, it is still asinine. You are not "cool" or "edgy" because you hate sparkling vampires. It is not a "new" or "fresh" point of view to espouse, because you are certainly not the first person to do so. Hating Twilight does not qualify you for Mensa. There is not, there has never been, nor will there ever be a need to pollute an otherwise unrelated conversation with it.
I guess some would say that I fall under #7 myself here. I hate Twilight bashing because Twilight bashing is apparently the "in" thing these days. That said, I'm not proud of the fact that I have the ability to think of the Twilight franchise without dissolving into a blistering puddle of loathing. I just wish that I could more successfully tune out all of those who apparently don't have that ability.
