Apparently this only opened up today, and they've already raised over $150,000 $170,000 of their $400,000 goal as of the writing of this post (it went up by about $15,000 just in the time it took me to write this post). I'm honestly considering pledging at least the $15 minimum myself, possibly $30. I still have a month to decide, either way. (EDIT 2) I went ahead and pledged $30 to them. It's a drop in the bucket compared to what they've already raised, but every little bit will help. Hell, even if a million people only pledged a single dollar, that would still be a million dollars (which they're already within $100,000 of reaching anyway, as of the time of this edit). (/EDIT 2)
Found out about it via this.
I don't know... this seems like the beginnings of something potentially huge, to me. And I don't just mean this one game, either.
(EDIT)
And now, two hours later as I'm about to go to bed, they're already over $300,000. They'll be well over their goal of $400,000 by morning.

I can't remember if I publically made reference to this kind of system as a solution to developer funding (rather than the gut-game-and-sell-separately issue most have chosen.) but I did see how it would be beneficial and how it could work. It's the same method Sellaband use to use for bands.
... I just hope this kickstarter site doesn't become greedy sonsofbitches with their clients the way Sellaband did with updated Terms of Use, etc that changed how much they took from artists - and in order to sign into Sellaband you had to accept the new terms. But you had to sign in to officially cancel relations with Sellaband... etc. I don't bother loading their site anymore because of that shit.
Like I said tho, hopefully these guys will do much better - and stay better.
