So apparently, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic was nominated for a Leo award. But, wait, it turns out that was actually in error. (EDIT) Or maybe not, since that second link there has apparently been deleted, and I can find no further news about the error. And, in fact, the show is still on the Leo website (though it only has 3 nominations instead of 4). So... *shrug* (/EDIT)

In any case, mentioning that just gives me an excuse to talk about the music now. *nods sagely*

Despite the impression I may have given in previous posts, I don't hate the music in MLP:FiM. Quite the contrary. However, as is also the case when I'm watching, say, a Disney movie or whatever, whenever the singing starts, my initial reaction is always to groan. I don't really appreciate the music that much on a first viewing, and it's only later, when I've had a chance to listen to it on its own merits that I can enjoy it more. (For instance, to go back to the Disney example, Under the Sea and I Just Can't Wait to be King are very good.)

So, to get down to business.

As for the single-pony-specific stuff, Rarity clearly gets the best songs. An exception to this is Pinkie Pie's Smile Song. Normally, I don't much care for the Pinkie songs, because they're usually just short little ditties and are kind of annoying to me. (I have to admit, though, that I kind of dig Equestria Girls as well, even though it's not something that was used in an actual episode.) That said, I think Rainbow Dash gets the best instrumental leitmotif, as heard in Sonic Rainboom and Cutie Mark Chronicles as well as something similar in her bit in Rarity's fashion show. Also, her part in At the Gala though it wasn't instrumental and didn't fit quite as well with the previous examples, though it still had the electric guitar theme to it.

Speaking of At the Gala, the bigger multi-pony musical numbers are usually generally impressive. Winter Wrap Up and the Find a Pet Song are other good ones.

And then, to follow up on the Rainbow Dash leitmotif thing a bit, some of the other instrumental bits are pretty good as well. Photo Finish's theme and also Gilda's Threat and Gilda's Rage are pretty cool.

For other stuff, though I didn't like it at first, the Flim Flam Brothers Song is starting to grow on me. And, heck, despite not caring all that much for the Cutie Mark Crusaders themselves (as a group, anyway, as I don't mind the individual ponies themselves), I do still like their theme song, mainly because it was intentionally terribad and yet not actually all that bad.

In conclusion, here is the TVTropes Awesome Music page for MLP:FiM (yes, it has its own page), which has other stuff I didn't mention above (such as the extended theme song).

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'ma go listen to some Aphex Twin or something now. Try to balance out the saccharine a bit.
