I'm not entirely sure why, exactly, but I'm looking for creepy music. I've listened to a lot of stuff that has been dubbed "creepy" by Youtube and the Internet at large, and some of it was, initially, kind of creepy, but it doesn't really do anything for me now.
For example:
I was just watching these (EDIT) argh, god damn this paleolithic copyright enforcement bullshit *weary fucking sigh* (/EDIT) three videos, and while some of them do edge up on being what I would consider to be creepy... eh...
I'm talking stuff more like Omen from Persona 4, Moonchild and Silent Heaven from Silent Hill 1 & 2 respectively, the insanity theme from Eternal Darkness (which isn't even "music" really), Twisted Eyes/Innocent Freak, Stalking Insanity/Something Lacking, Writhing Embryo/Sly Hunter and Spiral End/Warped Obsession all from Haunting Ground, Don't Cry Jennifer from Clock Tower and Scissorman and Scissorman Reprise from Clock Tower 2. Things like that, though at this point I find most of those things "pretty cool" more than "creepy" now.
Ominous Latin Chanting like Ave Satani from The Omen (the bit from Hellsing in the first of the anime videos I linked to up there is a remix of this) or Consumite Furore from Phantasmagoria, could be good too.
I've searched out music inspired by Lovecraft and by the Slender Man Mythos, and... yeah... it's just more of the same really. Nothing really all that super creepy or anything.
I mean, call me strange, but I'm to the point where I find stuff like Aphex Twin's Gwely Mernans (translation "Death Bed") and Gwarek2 almost soothing (if only due to familiarity, because they both freaked my shit out when I first heard them, years ago... and, well, okay Gwarek2 isn't really "soothing" so much as "no longer all that creepy"). Even the mashup between the two that someone made as part of a horror short film doesn't do much for me.
I'm not saying I'm all super badass hardcore or anything like that. I'm just kind of disappointed that I don't find "creepy music" to be all that creepy anymore. I haven't really found anything lately that gives that spine-tingling chill that I'm looking for. As a kid, the Clown Dream from Pee Wee's Big Adventure used to kind of mess me up as far as being creepy, but I watch that now and just kind of smile and head bob to it (and most Danny Elfman music is like that for me now). Large Marge is still pretty scary, though.
