Man... I really, really want to make a long-winded, frothing-at-the-mouth ultra-rant about this government shutdown bullshit.

But I also don't want to do that. My last "politics" tagged post was back in June, and I've felt pretty good about not ranting about this crap since then, and I kind of don't want to fall off the wagon now.

I'll just say that I like President Obama's take on it. The only thing I would change is that he should have said 'I shouldn't have to offer anything else." He and the Democrats have already bent over backwards trying to appease the utterly unappeasable, and I'm glad he is finally starting to show a little bit of the sharp tooth on this.

After the election a newspaper here used a phrase that translates to "What more do you want?". Sounds like something Obama should say about the current situation over there.

My dad is wondering whether US politicians start calling each other national traitors for not wanting to approve the budget, because if it happened over here you can bet someone will.

I don't know if the exact word "traitor" has been used or not in reference to political opponents, at least by higher profile politicians in a public light anyway, since they usually tend to have at least the modicum of sense required to realize that treason is an actual thing and not something to accuse someone of lightly. (E.g. the main use of "traitor" that I've seen lately by high profile guys has been in reference to the NSA leaker, Edward Snowden.) But I wouldn't be at all surprised if it has indeed been used as a mere insult against political opponents at some point or another.

The average random Angry-Politics-Guy-On-The-Internet (e.g. freerepublic.com/democraticunderground.com) tosses the word "traitor" around all the time, though. Beyond that, terms like "unconstitutional" and "unpatriotic" (which is pretty much just a watered down version of "traitorous") and such get tossed around willy nilly to describe anything and everything that whoever is using them doesn't agree with, even if the terms don't apply or even make sense at all. It's ridiculous.
