Nothing new about this, as it's certainly not the first time that EA has shut down servers for games that they arbitrarily consider to be too old to keep supporting. However, when this is combined with their asinine stance on single-player games for the future, it should come as a warning to anyone looking to buy their games with the hope of being able to play them for more than just a few years or so, until EA comes along again and decides to randomly shut those down as well. In short, I would advise anyone to take a long hard look at that EA logo on the game they are considering buying before wasting their money.

I've already taken the stance of looking hard at the EA logo before purchasing a game. Of course, I also take a long hard look at Activision and Ubisoft and a bunch of other big name publishers since EA doesn't have a monopoly on doing anti-gamer shit.

Luckily for me, there's drastically few if any EA games I even consider worth picking up. But if I see it's one of their games that they want to insist you being online for and it's not a real MMORPG, it instantly goes back on the shelf.

Yeah, lots of other companies are doing the stupid anti-singleplayer shit. EA is the one most known for shutting down servers for new-ish games after only a few years or so, though, which is the main complaint this time. It's their penchant for shutting down servers combined with their idiotic anti-singleplayer everything-must-be-online-these-days bullshit that's most troubling.
