Yeah, here's another article about that whole Minecraft thing that's been going down recently.

However, if it had been only that, I wouldn't have bothered making this post. I'm making this post more for the following video that I found in the comments under that article, which does a pretty good job of explaining both sides of the issue.

This is that video:

The fact that DDoS protection is pretty much a required cost to run a big public server (and is apparently so expensive[1]) or else your server will no longer exist is a sad damn state of affairs. Why must human beings be such assholes?

[1] - I was seeing some sites advertising "affordable" DDoS protection starting at about $250 per month. That might be fine for some huge company, but for a little guy running a Minecraft server it's pretty ridiculous.

That DDoS protection varies as well. One server I was on was paying for something like that, and I swear the service was worse than normal. I suspect that some dicks hammer servers being protected by that shit on purpose just to see if they can DDoS it. It's like those services are throwing down a gauntlet and making themselves a target.

Also I don't know what this "big grey line" he keeps referring to. It's not grey, it's black and white. You do not do "these things" that a large portion of the minecraft community is doing. The only greyness about it is that mojang hasn't been enforcing it so people decided it was legal.
