Full title of the article, because it won't fit in the subject line of a LJ article: "A Summary Of The Gamergate Movement That We Will Immediately Change If Any Of Its Members Find Any Details Objectionable"

I found it somewhat amusing, anyway.

Disclaimer: Clickhole is associated with The Onion, which is, of course, a satire website. With that said, however, its characterization of GamerGate in the above article is still pretty accurate, at least as far as I'm concerned, anyway.

(EDIT) Oh, and while I'm on the subject of comedy websites cutting through the usual bullshit to get to the heart of matters, here is a Cracked.com article about GamerGate that I somehow missed when it was originally posted (one of several such, one of which was written by Zoe Quinn herself which I somehow also missed until now). (EDIT 2) Oh, and look at how many buttmad GamerGate-supporting manchildren there are in the comments under those Cracked articles, espousing how Cracked is supposedly "wrong" and that GamerGate isn't actually like that at all. *eyeroll* (/EDIT 2) (/EDIT)

I started reading the comments although I didn't get nearly through even the first 500 of 5000+ comments on the article.

The main person I noticed (certainly the first, and repeated) going on about cracked (And other commenters) being wrong had as his avatar, a picture of presumably himself... holding a rifle.

That right there kinda told me more than I needed to know about the people that still stick up for gamersgate.

There are far more efficient ways to get ethics into journalism than harrassing everyone who disagrees with you. Fuck, if they're that large a group they could have started their own god damned review site and put their money where their mouths are. But I'm sure they'd be same as the rest within a year.

I agree with you 100% that GamersGate is beyond redemption at this point. Anyone who actually believes in the original, well intended (I'm sure) goals of the group should break off and start again without the trolls. But I suspect they'd just come under attack by the trolls themselves so at this point all they can really do is shut up about it.

Yeah, it's kind of like the guys who, whenever any sort of topic involving sexism/feminism and such comes up, tend to get all defensive and "not all men (https://www.google.com/search?num=100&site=&source=hp&q=not+all+men&oq=not+all+men&gs_l=hp.3..0l2.1176.2188.0.2378.12.12.0.0.0.0.130.1344.1j11.12.0....0...1c.1.56.hp..1.11.1231.0.ojTaD1BRtL4)"-y, instead of either A) having the decency to say "You know what, yeah, there are a lot of guys out there who still treat women like shit and those assholes suck and should be shamed," or B) just staying the hell out of it and keeping their traps shut if they don't have anything better to say.

In this case, the argument is just a variation on that: "Well, not all GamerGate supporters..." I would say it's too bad that they let the shitbirds hijack their movement, but as I noted in a previous post, the so-called "movement" was started by the shitbirds on 4chan to begin with. It's seems more like a lot of the somewhat less assholish people heard about GamerGate, liked the surface stuff they heard (i.e. ethics in journalism or whatever it is that GamerGate claims to be about) and then jumped into it with both feet, without first making sure that the thing they were jumping into wasn't already filled with horseshit, and now they are pissed off that they are covered in horseshit. Sort of like a weird form of "buyer's remorse" where they've latched onto this "movement" and want to feel like they are a part of something important, but the thing they've latched onto wasn't actually the thing that was advertised, and now they don't know how to extricate themselves from it, and so stupidly still try to defend it (even though it's pretty much indefensible at this point).
