Transcribed from my pencil-and-paper journal entry from today:
Donald fucking Jackass goddamn Trump is the 45th President of the United States of America. America has officially shit the bed. America has royally fucked up super hard.
Just because Trump now has the title of President, that doesn't somehow magically change the kind of person that Trump is. Trump is a disgusting human being, in far too many ways. He is racist and had the support of the Ku Klux Klan, one of the worst white supremacy groups in the country. He is sexist and misogynistic and had the support of 4chan trolls, one of the worst groups of sexists and misogynists on the Internet. He is xenophobic, wants to keep Muslims out of the country, and wants to build a wall along the Mexican border. He is a terrible, corrupt businessman who has lost several orders of magnitude more money than most people can ever even dream to have. Born with a silver spoon up his ass, given a "small" loan of $1,000,000 by his father. Fuck, if I had a million fucking dollars, I could pay off all of my various debts and still have $900,000 left over.
I'll be waiting to see how long it takes before the voting equivalent of buyer's remorse sets in. I doubt it will take long.
Hell, I "joke" about Trump having his finger on the nuclear button, but the actual worst thing is that Trump will get to pick Supreme Court justices. That won't set us back merely four relatively short years, but several goddamn decades. And with the GOP in control of both parts of Congress, Trump will be able to ram through all but the most ridiculously, egregiously horrific of his policy and probably even some of the ridiculously, egregiously horrific shit, too.
I respect the office of POTUS, but I have not respected, do not respect, and will never respect Donald Trump. I don't care that Trump is President now. His being President is a grievous blight on that once great office. The fact that far too many people were successfully conned by Trump and bought into his bullshit enough to elect him as President does not somehow change the fact that Trump is a vile, evil person.
The racists won yesterday. The white supremacists won. The sexists and misogynists won. The xenophobes won. The homophobes won (given that Trump's running mate, Mike Pence, believes in conversion therapy). This is a dark time in our nation's history and in the history of the world. Some laughably claimed that America had moved beyond all the racism and sexism and homophobia and such, but Election Day 2016 proves the lie of this claim. November 8, 2016 proved that these things are still thriving, very much alive and well.
And this sickens me to my core. If I wasn't already pretty much filled with general apathy, ennui, depression, whatever you want to call it, then this would have definitely pushed me into all of that. It's almost like what's the point of anything anymore? I'm not to the point of being suicidal or anything, to be clear, but I don't feel great.
The more I think about it, though, the less sad or dejected or depressed or whatever I feel. The main thing I'm feeling right now is bitter, unvarnished rage. Rage that our country could be this goddamn stupid.
(EDIT)
However, not everything is completely gloom and darkness. There is this, at least:
It doesn't help for this particular horrible moment in history, but it is heartening for the future.
(EDIT 2, eight years later) Well, so much for that shit, I guess, because hey, wouldn't you know it, Dumbshit Jizzstain Trump seems to have been elected as POTUS again. (/EDIT 2, eight years later)

This is how the future voted. This is what people 18-25 said in casting their votes. We must keep this flame alight and nurture this vision. pic.twitter.com/ivuXrar869
