The other day, prior to Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation, I sent a message to my Senator, Thom Tillis, about this. https://www.facebook.com/adplummer/posts/577298390143

Below is copy/pasted the worse-than-useless response I received from Senator Tillis today:

-----

Dear Mr. Plummer:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me about the President’s nomination of Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh to be an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. I appreciate hearing from you.

On July 9, 2018, the President nominated Judge Kavanaugh to fill a vacancy on the United States Supreme Court. Subsequently, on September 4, 2018, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a four-day hearing to evaluate Judge Kavanaugh’s qualifications and ask questions about how he would carry out the duties assigned to the highest Court in the United States.

Judge Brett Kavanaugh is one of the most eminently qualified individuals to be nominated to serve on the Supreme Court in recent memory. The American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary unanimously rated him as “well-qualified” to serve on the Supreme Court – the highest rating awarded by the Association. He has spent the last decade serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals, earning a reputation for being a mainstream and fair-minded jurist with excellent judicial temperament. While serving on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, Judge Kavanaugh’s Democratic-appointed colleagues and Republican-appointed colleagues both joined his opinions 89 percent of the time. I believe that is the hallmark of a highly respected judge who can build judicial consensus from all sides.

On October 5, 2018, my colleague and friend, Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) came to the Senate floor and delivered a speech explaining why she supported Judge Kavanaugh. Senator Collins stressed Judge Kavanaugh’s views of precedent and how he believes “precedent is not merely a practice and tradition, but rooted in Article 3 of our Constitution itself.” Senator Collins addressed the allegation of sexual misconduct Dr. Christine Blasey Ford brought forth against Judge Kavanaugh and noted, the allegation was made without any corroborating evidence. Senator Collins explained why the presumption of innocence is so ingrained in our American consciousness. I agree with Senator Collins’ speech and believe all allegations of sexual misconduct must be taken seriously and thoroughly vetted in a manner that is fair to all sides.

As you may know, on October 6, 2018, the full Senate confirmed Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. After the Senate conducted an extensive investigation into the allegations against Judge Kavanaugh and found there was no basis to believe he committed any of the acts in question, I was proud to cast my vote in favor of his nomination. I am confident that Judge Kavanaugh will make him an outstanding addition to the Supreme Court.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I take my role in vetting nominees very seriously, and I will continue to support thorough evaluation of these nominees to ensure they are qualified to serve the American people. Please do not hesitate to contact me again about other nominations that may come before the Senate.

Sincerely,

Thom Tillis
U.S. Senator

So, in conclusion, Thom Tillis is full of Jurassic Park levels of shit. He clearly has chosen to be part of the problem, not part of the solution, and I hope he gets voted out with the most extreme prejudice when his term is up in 2020. I could say much, much worse about Senator Tillis, but I will refrain from doing so, because I'm too sick (literally and figuratively) to be quite so creative at the moment.
