Just deleted my ever-unused Google+ account. The only reason I even made one in the first place was for Youtube-related reasons, given that for a while they had stupidly tied Youtube to Google+. Anyway, Google sent out an email saying they were ending Google+ in April, so I figured I'd just go ahead and help them out and delete it myself right the fuck now. What a goddamn waste of Internet Google+ was from the get go. *weary sigh*

This is why I pretty much avoid anything google 99% of the time. Virtually all of their experiments end up getting discontinued, even if they're still being used by a lot of people.

Granted with regards to google+ I'm surprised they let it sit on life support for as long as it did since it was pretty obvious people weren't going to accept it.

Only google thing I'm signed up for is gmail. That might be a risky thing to do in some respects but of any of their sideshows, gmail probably has the best staying power beyond google itself or youtube. IE: I doubt google wants to lose direct access to people's email.

With google+ though, that was likely hurting other google businesses more than anything else with the way they tied google+ to youtube signups and other such BS. True story - I was going to get a youtube account years ago - but when I finally looked into it they had recently tied google+ and youtube accounts - and had forced the real name restriction. So I passed on it.

For the record, as far as real names are concerned, I don't particularly care if the service I'm signing up for knows who I really am. I do have issues with being forced to tell everyone on the internet that simply by having an account. There are far too many assholes on the internet to happily hand out personal info willingly. (The determined assholes will find it without your help but hey let's cut down on the number of destructive assholes by weeding out the lazy eh? ;)

Anyway I know I'm not alone in this train of thought so if google's real name and service merging policies stopped me from signing up for youtube I'm sure it stopped thousands of others as well.

Hell, even after they officially stopped with the tying together shit I've kept refusing to sign up in case they do a second 180 after I sign up. At this point I've just lost the interest of attempting to do a video channel - which would have likely just been gameplay vids of games I'm working on at any given time. (Which I really have to start working on again. x.x)
