So [personal profile] tokoz over on Facebook made a post that was the following link (just that, the link, no commentary or anything):

https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/commentary/2019/09/06/in-animes-metoo-moment-vic-mignogna-a-no-show-at-tarrant-county-hearing-and-his-case-is-mostly-an-unholy-mess/

And these were all of my responses to that (unedited, except to remove look-like-shit-outside-of-Facebook emojis):

I keep wanting to say "fuck that guy" or "screw that guy" to scumpools like this dude (Mignogna), but lately it just feels icky and wrong to me to say "fuck <insert whatever here>" as an insult, in general, but especially in cases such as this...

...so I'll just say "to hell with that guy" instead. And his clownshoes lawyer as well, but I guess it's good (at least in the schadenfreude sense) that he got a terrible one and not an actually competent one.

...and people actually contributed to a GFM campaign for this scuzz. *smh* Might as well have just literally flushed it down the toilet.

Speaking of the lawyer... apparently he's done a lot of angry ranting over this whole thing on Youtube. I won't be watching that, but the fact that it is a thing that happened just adds a whole other layer of strange to it all.

(Yeah, I only very vaguely knew anything about any of this before this point, if that wasn't obvious... >_>;)

And goddamn it, I know this isn't all that important in the bigger scheme of things, but this asshole is a voice in RWBY, which I only just started watching the other day (in 45 episodes of it, according to IMDB, as the uncle of two of the main characters at that... urgh). *weary sigh + burgeoning headache*

Oh well... I guess if I could tolerate seeing Adam Baldwin in Angel and Firefly, even after knowing what an asshat that dude was, I suppose I'll be able to get through listening to Vic Mignogna's voice in RWBY... but still, this is going to put a damper on things. :/

At least RoosterTeeth has cut ties with him for the future, for what it's worth.

(Reply from [personal profile] tokoz):

yep. The lawyer is a major piece of work. He leaked his own client's depo tapes among other things. That GFM is also a thing, since, iirc, it was being misused egregiously.

Man, this dude is such a scuzzy creeper.

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2019-01-30/far-from-perfect-fans-recount-unwanted-affection-from-voice-actor-vic-mignogna/.142212

I have no idea how I've not heard of any of this before now, given that he's been in a ton of stuff I've seen/watched/played over the years (he was frickin' Junpei in Persona 3, jfc), and I typically at least sort of follow voice actors that I like (just checked Twitter for the first time in months to make sure I hadn't been following the guy there, and luckily I somehow managed to dodge that bullet), but apparently this kind of stuff has been going on for like 20-30 years now. And this, just from the *very* *briefest* of Google skims since I first read your post there, so it's not like it was really obscure or hidden. I mean, it's even got its own damned KnowYourMeme page, blugh: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/vic-mignogna-sexual-harassment-allegations

And the scariest thing is that this dude still has ardent, militant defenders even now. This dude *and* his supporters are scum. (But then, I remember who the current POTUS is, and how and why, and every thing else that entails, and, sadly, it all sort of starts to make sense again. Same kind of "where's the evidence"/"no proof" bullshit in this case, as well, despite there being ample amounts of it for people to ignore. Grimacing face. Disappointed face.)

(Reply from [personal profile] tokoz):

yup. pretty much.

(And then, in a post of my own, regarding the same article as up top):

Everything about that is terrible, but one aspect of it that sticks out to me in light of other, similar horseshit lately is what I'm going to focus on right now.

I think back to what it must have been like during, say, the Al Capone or the Charles Manson trials and I just can't imagine anyone in the general public being all like "where's the evidence against him?!" or "NO PROOF!" or "innocent until proven guilty!" or "there goes the sjw lynch mob after an innocent man again!" or any of the other mental hurdles/gymnastics/trapeze bars on which belligerent, dumbshit people willingly perform in order to continue to stand behind their Chosen Ones in the same manner they do now. It is ridiculously asinine.

I mean, maybe I'm wrong and those guys had just as big a cult following of fanboys/fangirls back then as is enjoyed by the blatant scuzz of today, but it's hard to picture that being the case.

On the other hand, I look at dudes like Roman Polanski or Woody Allen or OJ Simpson or Bill Clinton (Mr. Clinton was a good President, imnsho, but he was sort of a scummy dude otherwise, looking back on it now) or goddamned Donald Jackass Trump (who is both an abysmal President and an abhorrent human being and always has been and always will be), and how those guys still walk free(-ish) even now and still have huge fanbases, despite everything, and it all starts to make sense to me how it could have possibly been the case.

People are fucking stupid.

This is just the age we live in now, I guess. *weary sigh* It just keeps happening. To hell with all of these slime buckets, especially the ones who have been at it for decades.
