HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahaha....

(UPDATE)

In a fit of boredom, I actually bothered to read the full text of his complaint.

Check this out.

First item under the section entitled "THE FACTS":

8. Defendants Best Buy and Microsoft are presently selling, for delivery commencing on October 25, 2007, the violent, interactive video game” entitled Halo 3.

Missed the boat by a whole month, Jackhole.

Once again, allow me to say HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahaha....

GJ, Jackhole. You keep fighting that good fight, dude.

I think this pretty much speaks for itself.

So, for those who haven't already heard, Manhunt 2 has been banned in the UK and given an AO rating here in the US, which is tantamount to a ban, since most stores won't sell AO games, and, more importantly, both Nintendo and Sony have said they won't allow AO games (or, at least, an AO rated Manhunt 2) on their respective consoles.

While this has caused an uproar in some circles, my only real regret about the whole situation is that the game in question had to be Manhunt 2, otherwise I could give more of a crap about it. I mean, yeah, it sucks that the game is basically getting banned by a few wussy Big Brother types who don't think that adults should be allowed to decide for themselves what video games they can play, but... ...it's Manhunt 2, for crying out loud. I'm not saying that the game deserves to be banned, and I'm not saying that I'm okay with it being banned, I'm just saying that... well... I don't give a flying crap about Manhunt 2. The whole banning situation, in general, irritates me, sure, which is why I'm posting about it here, but the fact that it is Manhunt 2 that was the catalyst for it also irritates me. Also, the fact that many people are now saying things like "Oh I'm definitely getting this game now, you know, just on principle alone, even though I didn't really care about it before" is pretty irritating as well.

Hell, I wouldn't bet money against the idea that this whole thing was just a ploy orchestrated by Rockstar to drum up interest in their game, and that they already have a toned down M-rated version ready to go, once the hullabaloo and free advertising for their game has died down. If, indeed, that were true, I would be simultaneously disgusted with Rockstar and also impressed by their ability to manipulate these tools (i.e. the guys doing the banning as well as the guys planning to buy the game "just on principle") for their own ends.

And, yes, I fully realize that I have just contributed to said hullabaloo and free advertising for Manhunt 2.

(UPDATE)

Also, Jack Thompson. I'm actually surprised it took him this long to spew his opinion at us on this matter. I'd have figured he would have been all over this one from the get go. *eyeroll*

(UPDATE 2)

This, on the other hand, is something that I could totally get behind. (EDIT) Too bad it never went anywhere. Guess Destructoid was too busy being "edgy and cool" with their reviews and such to actually put any real effort into this. This makes sense, given that it was apparently David Houghton and Jim Sterling who were spearheading this thing, and after Houghton left, that only left Sterling behind to do anything with it. And I think I've already made more than clear what a cock-up Jim Sterling has been lately. (/EDIT)

Hmm, first post I've made in not quite a month...

...and it's about Jack Thompson.

Oh, but not only Jack Thompson, Dr. Phil as well.

(UPDATE)

But, on the other hand, there's Rush Limbaugh. o_O ?!!!

Wow. Just... wow.

Jack Thompson. Joe Lieberman. David Walsh. Dave Grossman. It's like an all-star cast of stupid.

Yeah, I'm sure Mohamed Atta was sitting there playing Flight Simulator and crashed a plane into a building and then suddenly said, "Oh my... strange, uncontrollable urge to fly a plane into the WTC rising... can't resist..."

Also: "This type of issue is politically a win-win type of issue. Um, it's the issue of where you're protecting the children."

(EDIT)

Yeah, I know I'm a bit behind on this, since Penny Arcade talked about this almost a month ago, but the Destructoid article brought it back to mind.

I seriously don't get it.

Is Jack Thompson moonlighting as a private investigator or a bounty hunter or a whatever the hell now, in addition to being a shitty lawyer? I feel bad for those parents, but this is, in my opinion, probably one of the most unproductive things they could have done. I don't see how Jack Thompson, in any way whatsoever, could help them find their son. Or perhaps contacting Thompson is some kind of misguided revenge thing against the evil video game that kidnapped their son? I honestly don't get it. If the kid isn't found, or is found dead or something, this will be still more fuel for Thompson's asshatted crusade. If the kid is found alive and well, Thompson will be able to take (likely undeserved) credit for it. Either way, it's win-win for Jackhole.

I hope things turn out well for those parents, but I don't see anything good coming from this situation at all, now that Jack Thompson is apparently involved.

Video link.

According to Jackhole, apparently, MMO players all over are up and disappearing, presumably to be murdered by their MMO brethren.

I know I rant about Jack Thompson quite a bit, but I will say this much for him:

At least he hasn't proposed any legislation that is as flat out retarded as this.

Yet.

So let me see if I've got this right:

You can shoot people with slingshots in Bully, and nobody much, besides Jack Thompson and David Walsh and the other usual suspects, seems to have a problem with it.

You can kiss girls in Bully, and apparently not even Jack Thompson seems to care, as far as I can tell.

You can kiss boys in Bully, and suddenly the world is on the brink of exploding in a blaze of hellfire and brimstone.

Did I miss anything?

LMFAO.

Someone made a Jack Thompson character using the Kreate a Fighter mode (or whatever it's called) in Mortal Kombat Armageddon, and now Jackhole is hitting Midway with a Cease and Desist because of it.

When compared to the Marvel vs NCSoft thing, I guess it's possible that Jack may actually have something of a case here, sort of, but still... LMFAO. He may as well sue NCSoft himself, not to mention THQ (WWE wrestling games) and every other game that has a create a character mode, because it's entirely possible that someone may create a Jack Thompson character for those games as well. Sheesh.

Karma is such a bitch, ain't she?

(Or, hopefully, will be.)

At the risk of offending the delicate sensibilities of anyone who might find this stupid, obsessive, pointless or whatever I don't give a flying shit, here's some more Jack Thompson fucktardedness. Click that link at your own risk, because it's about Jack Thompson, and it's very possible that you may not like reading about Jack Thompson so much.

For the record, I particularly enjoyed the last one that he sent to all those retailers.

(EDIT)
Paradoxically, I kind of agree with Adam Sessler in that we should just ignore Jack and maybe he'll go away. It's a good idea, in theory... but... yeah, if we ignore him, he'll go away, and also if I leap into the air three times while clicking my heels together, a billion dollars will fall out of the sky and land directly in my bank account. It's true. That we should ignore the fool has been said many times by many people, but nobody seems able to ignore the guy (myself included, most obviously). Jack Thompson is a walking, talking, human trainwreck. It's difficult not to just sit and gawk at and make fun of such a world-class bastard. And it's morbidly fun as well.

Not at all paradoxically, however, I agree more with Kevin Pereira in that if it were somehow possible to just start ignoring him, all that the general non-gaming public would ever know about JT would come only from all of his self-lauded appearances on 60 Minutes or the Today Show or podunk local news shows or whatever, where only his side of things would be seen. But then, it's not like the general non-gaming public watches anything other than 60 Minutes anyway, right Jack? Sadly, I don't think I've seen any of the more mainstream news outlets even hinting that Jack Thompson is actually not the big expert that he claims himself to be. They tend, from what I've seen, to take it at face value that the guy knows what he's talking about, and present him as such, despite all the evidence to the contrary.
(/EDIT)
kane_magus: (The_Sims_Medieval)
Here is Jack Thompson's view of himself.

Here is the way most of the rest of the world views him.

Sadly for him, few, if any, view him this way. Maybe if they did, he wouldn't be the asshat that he is today.

(And here is the secret reason behind all of Jack's hatred for the video game industry.)

Yeah. It's kind of lame, but still amusing.

Bah, all of those links are broken now. Oh well.

(EDIT)

Oh, I got them to work again. They changed the URLs around a bit.

Here's a newer one, although I think it has already come to pass, for the most part. We don't hear an awful lot out of good old Jackhole anymore.

Jack, you're such a sore loser. Not that this is anything new, of course, since it's not the first time you've questioned the competence of a judge who made a decision with which you were unhappy. *shrug*
kane_magus: (Default)
As I expected, Jack Thompson's attempt to keep Bully off of store shelves came to naught.

(EDIT) Here's a somewhat better link. (/EDIT)

Ho hum, Jack Thompson again, yadda fucking yadda. )

It makes me sick that all I get out of stories like this anymore are, "Well, there goes Jack Thompson once again, exploiting still more unfortunate victims of personal tragedies like this by turning them into little more than fodder for his ongoing, attention whorish, personal vendetta against Rockstar Games."

I am genuinely baffled as to why people still take this guy seriously and continue to let him represent them in cases like this.
kane_magus: (The_Sims_Medieval)
What a smug, self-serving Jackhole he is.

That's just par for the course for good ol' JT, though.

Oh, and here's a comment he made over at joystiq.com in response to a totally unrelated article. But he tried again and actually managed to repost his "press release" to the proper article, this time with a bit of extra commentary at the top concerning how "gamers' frontal lobes are often fried" and such. Classy guy, that Jack Thompson. Note, also, comment 65 immediately prior, in which he threatens to sue the owner of gamepolitics.com (again), and says he hopes to have closed the door on the "Taliban-tactics of video game enthusiasts who have tried, with death threats, bar complaints, and operatives dispatched to Thompson’s neighborhood in Miami to intimidate him into silence about the public safety hazards posed by violent video games which are serving as murder simulators". Jack is in top form today, it seems.

(And, on the subject of the article to which Jack posted his initial off-topic comment, the other comments where the Sony and Nintendo fanboys are going at each others' throats over the Wii not including DVD support are oh so morbidly amusing.)
kane_magus: (kanethumb1)
Anyone who bothers to read my journal is probably familiar by now with world class attention whore Jack Thompson. And those who are familiar with Jack Thompson are probably familiar with his Modest Video Game Proposal. And those who are familiar with the Modest Video Game Proposal are likely also familiar with "I'm OK - A Murder Simulator", a game made in response to the Modest Video Game Proposal.

Well, for those unwilling or unable to play all the way through "I'm OK", Destructoid has a video (via Google video [EDIT] And because Google Video no longer exists, here is a Youtube video of another LP of the game. [/EDIT]) of the entire game played from start to finish, intro to end credits. It's a little over 30 minutes long, the video, and was somewhat more entertaining than I expected it to be when I started watching it. Not for the weak of heart or the weak of butt, however.

And, while I'm at it, I'll recommend Bodythumper, another game based on Jack's Modest Video Game Proposal. This one gets points for using remixed clips from the Chatterbox interview with Jack Thompson in the game's music.

(EDIT: Really, that remix alone is probably worth the download of the game, even if you don't bother to play the game itself. It's "r.ogg" in the game's data directory.)
