Just in case anyone needed yet another example of why I consider the phrase "modern video game industry" to be one of the most grievous insults: here you go.

(EDIT) Just to note: I'd never heard of this game or dev before, but now that I have, they've instantaneously gone onto my "never buy" shitlist forever. Not that I would have ever considered paying $250 (or even just $50) for a fucking beta to start with, especially when the game sounds like utter dogshit to me, even before taking the devs' current greedy idiocy into consideration.

(Or, at least, if I had heard of them and potentially posted about them before, which I haven't bothered to look back at old posts to check, because I really don't care to waste the time, then I was apparently successful in completely blotting them out of my memory until now. And so, thus begins anew the process of blotting them out of my memory entirely.) (/EDIT)

That said, all those other games that Joe recommends instead of this Tarkov shit... nah. I'll pass. I have no interest in gritty war shooter games. Last one I played was one of those Calluhdoody games at some point between 10 to 15 years ago, and that was only because I was drafted to replace, for a single day, one of the testers who was out sick at the no longer existing QA company I used to work for back when I lived in Redmond, WA.

I should start watching Angry Joe again, more often.

You don't mention the game in question and I haven't clicked the link, but I know what you're talking about. I watched a rant from Angry Joe just yesterday about an epic fail move regarding a game with a new 250 dollar edition. *peeks at link* Yep, the game I was assuming it was.

But yeah, just add it to the list of reasons why the modern video game industry needs a real crash. Never knew the game existed and as far as a search is concerned it doesn't appear to be on steam. If anything it's a strong example of why not to buy early access. And certainly to think twice before buying any kind of "appreciation bundle" offered so you can "support the developer". Particularly if they're making promises about the future.

Yeah, only if someone has already provided a complete, finished, whole-ass video game for a cheap price (or for free) would I even consider throwing two or three dollars their way for an appreciation bundle or whatever.

If the game is still in fucking beta, though?[1] And especially if they're asking for goddamned $150 or $250 rather than $2.99 or whatever? No. No, they can fuck off and eat shit forever.

[1] - Seriously, I remember the old days when devs used to actually pay people to beta test their games (imagine that), rather than how it is now, where they're charging stupid, gullible people out the ass for the "privilege" of testing their game and calling it "early access" rather than "beta testing." But then, most game studios these days are simply shitting out "complete" games for full price which turn out to be unfinished roach motels that are essentially "early access"/"beta" products in all but name, anyway, so I suppose the clearly labeled "early access" products are slightly more honest about it, at least in that regard. But then, most games that "leave early access" continue to be "early access" games in all but name, so... maybe not so much.

Oh, and I keep saying "beta" when what I really should be saying is "alpha," because a "beta" product is supposed to be feature complete, i.e. they're not adding new features anymore. Really, all these "early access" games and all this "perpetual beta" shit should actually be called "perpetual alpha." If you're putting new features and shit in your thing, then your thing has not reached a state worthy of being called "beta" yet, simple as that. "Beta" and "early access" and all that crap have just become meaningless buzzwords, same as all the other meaningless buzzwords thrown about willy-nilly by the modern video game industry.
