Destructoid headline: "Rumor: Gamespot fires editor to appease Eidos: W.R. Hearst rolls in grave"

If this is actually true, which remains to be seen for certain, then GameSpot can go suck a fat donkey cock.

It is true. Or at least, he was fired.

This essentially tells you "Don't trust any review on the site." tho. Whether it's a high review or a low review. If the reviewers have to worry about getting sacked from now on (And you know they will be even if they're "Assured" it'll "never happen again") you can bet they'll be parroting whatever they're told to.

If they want to sleep at night anyway. :)

Are there any online sites with reviews anybody can trust anymore? o_O

When they get around to it, Kotaku's pretty good.
And Penn-Arcade seems to hit the mark most of the time.

The trick, of course, being that those are more blog sites than actual "professional" review sites like GameSpot, IGN, etc.

But yeah, even before this thing with GameSpot, I tend to read the bigger sites with a more skeptical eye.

I would like to add Destructoid to yamen's list as well, except that they seem more interested in giving awesome games incredibly low scores in order to piss off fans and thus bring in traffic, rather than to seriously review them. Or, at least, one of the reviewers seems to like to do that, anyway, what with it being the same guy giving Twilight Princess a 4.0 out of 10, Assassin's Creed a 5.5, and so on. The other reviewers on Destructoid seem to take it a little more seriously, however.

*stumbles upon the previous comment while searching through old posts looking for something else entirely*

Ha ha, wow, even that far back in time, I was already beginning to notice even then how much Destructoid sucks (http://kane-magus.livejournal.com/316134.html).

And now, five years later, I think that pretty much all such sites, even the little blog-ish sites, are pretty much all full of Jurassic Park levels of shit, with Destructoid (and Kotaku) merely being among of the worst of the lot. And, of course, I still also don't trust the bigger sites like GameSpot and the like, either.
