A post on John Scalzi's blog, in which he discusses a German court ruling that Google is liable for any erroneous, untrue, bullshit claims made by their LLM doohickey that appears at the top of almost every Google search now.

I've done Google searches where I peeked at the AI summary, and the AI was regurgitating "facts" from actual shitposting sites (i.e. websites that literally had "shitposting" in the name). Make of that what you will.

Maybe that will encourage Google to turn the damn thing off, or at least enable users to turn if off if they wish.

If they do turn it off, it'll probably only be in Germany that they do so. At least until other countries get in on this as well.

I don't foresee a similar lawsuit going nearly as well in the US, though, given how big corporations, including Google, have essentially been allowed to de facto write most of the laws governing themselves for the past several decades now.
