Mass Effect 2 comes out today. Hopefully, it will be waiting for me when I get home, though I may not actually start playing it today because I still want to finish my current playthrough of the first game. I hope ME2 is at least as good as ME1, which was the primary reason I bought a 360 a few years ago.

Also, I really hope there is some Elcor Hamlet in ME2.

(EDIT)

As I expected, I didn't get to start ME2 tonight. I just got finished with my Lvl 60 playthrough of ME1 just a few minutes ago (12:30am 01-27-200910, grr I'm going to be doing that for the next three or four months, I just know it). This playthrough was intended to be the "make all the decisions I want to carry over into ME2" playthrough, and it mostly went as I wanted except for one rather major thing.

I somehow managed to break the romance with Ashley. I don't know what happened or what I messed up, but it just didn't work. I was talking up both her and Liara, and was expecting to get the "You have to choose one or the other of us" cutscenes as I had in my previous two playthroughs, at which point I was going to choose Ashley, but it never happened. The Liara romance went forward, and when it got to the point where she wanted to "do something that will show just what we mean to each other (i.e. we should have sex before we all die horrible deaths)" I told her to hit the road. This hopefully will kill the Liara romance going into ME2. The more I think about it too, this could end up actually being a good thing, because now I am free to pursue one of the new romance optionsTali in ME2, without having to worry about whatever consequences there may have been for cheating on Ash or Liara (which I wouldn't have done if the Ashley romance had actually worked). And to be quite honesty, if Tali had been available in ME1, I would have chosen her over both Ashley and Liara in a heartbeat anyway, so I guess it will all work out in the end.

As a totally unrelated aside, as of this edit, I am now using a USB keyboard to type out these things on the Wii, which is infinitely better than having to use the Wiimote all the time. Still don't have cut/copy/paste or such on the Wii, but even so the keyboard is still much better than using the Wiimote. Speaking of which, three things were delivered today: the aforementioned keyboard, Mass Effect 2, and lastly volumes 2 and 3 of the Angry Video Game Nerd DVDs (which I had ordered about three weeks ago and had completely forgotten about). So, happy birthday to me indeed.

EA shipped me my copy and I got it yesterday (woo!). I only managed 2 hours or so of playtime as I had plans for the evening.

Good Lord. Awesomeness.

So far, it feels like what a sequel should be. Not just the same world loosely tied to a previous game, but a genuine continuation of the previous game. I imported one of my two characters from ME1, and it felt like I was reunited with a friend when stepping aboard the Normandy.

Again, only two hours of playtime but wow...very impressed so far (and I haven't noticed any texture pop-in yet).

Yeah, that's why I want to complete my current (third) ME1 playthrough before starting ME2. I finally hit level 60 in this one, and as of last night all I have left are Virmire and then Ilos+Endgame, with maybe a few UNC side quests.

If I ever want to play as a female Shepard though, I know I'll feel compelled to playthrough ME1 yet again. Maybe I'll just wait for ME3 and do a female Shepard run through the whole thing at once.

I have one male and one female character. I imported my female character for now and we'll see how I go about things on my next playthrough.

Also...I did remember one complaint about ME2 and that's "small type syndrome". Seriously, I have a 42" plasma TV and I have a hard time reading some of the text. It's getting ridiculous how many game companies are not ensuring a large enough type size for their games.

I have that problem with the first game, and many others (Assassin's Creed 1 & 2, Street Fighter IV, etc. come to mind). I only have something like a 27-29 inch "normal" TV. This game isn't going to be entirely illegible for me, is it? :/

Seriously, game devs need to realize that not everyone has a freaking full theater-sized movie screen for a TV installed in their house yet or any intention of getting one any time soon.

Heh...I have a big TV and still have issues. I don't know if it's any smaller than text in the first one...I suppose you'll find out soon enough.

It's probably more of an issue of game devs not realizing that when the resolution exploded for the HD users, they would need LARGER FONTS to cover more pixels just to have the text about the same size as on the 640x480 screens of the past.
