I'm just going to copy/paste the post I made to this thread on The Sims 3 forums.
"I'm having the same problem. I start a new game with a new Sim and play a little bit into the tutorial, and the game invariably crashes within a minute or two (usually around the point where I'm fulfilling the "Sit on couch" wish). It has done this about 5 or 6 times in a row now, and needless to say it's rather frustrating.
I already have DEP configured for Generations (and all the previous EPs and main game as well) and also have Large Address Aware set up for them as well. I've tried removing the one mod that I had installed (NRaas Debug Enabler). The only thing I haven't tried yet is uninstalling all of the stuff I'd gotten from the Store, but I'd rather not do that unless I have to."
Yeah, it's rather annoying. I really wish the days when I buy a game and it's completely broken right out of the box were the exception, rather than the rule, as increasingly seems to be the case nowadays.
Oh well, back to playing a game that actually works, I guess.
(EDIT)
Looks like I might have found a way to fix it. I did what was said in this thread (i.e. I switched the Data Execution Prevention settings from "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select" to "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only". Now, at least, it's not crashing consistently at the exact same point anymore. I've only been playing it for a few minutes since then, though, so only time will tell, I guess, but it's a good sign.
