What was predicted last week has indeed come to pass, and is actually a bit worse than predicted, apparently.

Glad I don't own or care about any of those games and, thus, haven't been affected by this. Sucks to be those who do and are, I guess. But then, if they've been paying even a little bit of attention for the past few years, then they brought this on themselves by knowingly buying these broken games in the first place. As such, my sympathy for them isn't too awfully high.

I would like to believe the people affected by the switch would actually realize why they aren't playing their games right now. About how their loyal purchases have locked them out of their game for doing nothing wrong. That they'd take this experience and keep it in mind when buying future games from ANY publisher that uses the same kind of BS. And from that leave the damned thing in the store until they remove the Eye of Sauron from the code.

Unfortunately the majority of the idiots will instead praise ubisoft from the bottom of their hearts for getting the servers back online. The longer they have to wait, the more thankful they'll be.

My only sympathy, such as it is, lies with the people who just don't follow video game news and thus didn't know about this sort of thing beforehand. All they know is that they went out and bought Might and Magic or Tom Clancy's Whatever and now they can't play it.

Then again, caveat emptor. It's not like this shit is some carefully hidden secret or anything (as much as Ubisoft and such may wish it were), and the onus is on the consumer to do the cursory amount of research required to find out about this sort of thing before buying.

So... hmm... yeah, I guess I actually don't have all that much sympathy for those people, after all. Especially since Ubisoft and the like pretty much depend on them to be able to get away with this crap in the first place. Well, them and the others who do know what they're getting into and simply don't give a shit about it (and who think that those who do give a shit about it are just hipster whiners or whatever). I have zero sympathy for that latter group being hit by this. In fact, I feel schadenfreude toward them.
