"Ubisoft Urges Customers to Get Assassin's Creed 3 Day-One Patch"

Of course, I guess it's pretty rare when a game is not released with a Day 1 bugfix patch these days, especially a big, so-called "AAA title" like this, so I guess this is just par for the course. *shrug* Ah well, I'd care a lot more about this if I were actually planning to get Assassin's Creed 3 any time soon. I still haven't even bought Brotherhood or Revelations yet. Last AC game I played was AC2, and that was three years ago. I figure I'll get around to the newer ones eventually... maybe... but I've got so much other stuff that it's not a priority at all. The first two were cool enough and all, but it's just that I've been soured on Ubisoft in general, due to their often incredibly shitty business practices, and haven't been much interested in buying any of their games lately. I did get From Dust on Steam relatively recently, when it was on one of those 75% off sales, but that's about it. And even that was only after they backpedaled and removed that effed up DRM from it. It was a pretty cool game and all, I suppose, but I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it.

...

Man, I kind of miss the days when I used to talk about actual games themselves, rather than all this crappy stuff about the game industry. ¬_¬

(EDIT)

Another, separate link related to AC3:

"Assassin’s Creed 3 microtransactions 'a shortcut to unlock game items'"

I know some people don't have a problem with this sort of thing, but I still personally think it is incredibly retarded A) to have things that can be obtained through normal gameplay available for sale via microtransations and B) that there are people out there lazy enough to actually pay for this crap, making it a viable revenue stream for Ubisoft. Honestly, I can't decide whether this is better or worse than actively stripping things out solely for the purpose of selling it as DLC. I guess I'll have to go with better, since it's still possible to get this stuff without being nickle-and-dimed to death, but it's still a very close thing either way.

Remember when this sort of thing was called "cheat codes" and were included as part of the game itself, rather than being some sort of paid extra crap? It's no surprise at all that you don't see any Game Genies/Gamesharks/Action Replays/etc. for the current gen consoles. That's considered "modding" these days, and we all know that modding is strictly verboten. Heaven forbid you be allowed to do what you want with the product you buy, as long as you aren't hurting anyone else. Oh, wait, that's right, you don't actually "own" any of the games you buy anymore, thanks to ridiculous EULAs and the like.
