Looking back on this, I have to say that I feel a little more empathy with Phil Fish now than I did back then, when I originally wrote the below, even though I wasn't fully against the guy even then. This comes after my own increasing disillusionment with the modern video game industry and all the bullshit that entails and also due to my antipathy against Irredeemably Toxic Shithole.

Things like this are why I like(d) Penny Arcade Report. The problem, to put it simply, is the GIFT.

I haven't played the first Fez yet (though I did buy it on Steam a while back), but I hear it's a pretty good game. The fact that the dev had a Twitter meltdown and cancelled work on the sequel doesn't really affect me all that much, good or bad. I don't know if this Phil Fish guy really is the huge asshole that the Internet seems to think he is*, since I'm really not that familiar with the guy at all. But I will say this much: if Cliffy B, of all people, is defending the guy, then that does lend credence to the "he's just an asshole" theory, since Cliffy B has an established history of defending really shitty things.
Seriously, even ignoring all that stuff about Phil Fish/Fez II, just the fact that people still apparently give even the slightest flying shit about what Cliffy B has to say is kind of mind-boggling to me.**
* - Seriously, just type "Phil Fish is " into Google and see what the auto-complete gets you.
** - Typing "Cliffy B is " or "Cliff Bleszinski is " into Google will get you results similar to those you get for Phil Fish. I know, I know, that's not really definitive at all, but it does show that enough people have made those searches in Google that it is kind of a thing. It's sort of like how you used to be able to do Google Maps searches for terms like "asshat" or "douchebag" or "attention whore" over the Florida area and the top result would be Jack Thompson's address.
