"Saying, apparently without any trace of irony, that 'Rigorous quality control is of paramount importance to us,' Ubisoft has put the fourth Assassin's Creed: Unity patch on hold while it continues to 'refurbish' the Paris map."

Heh. Usually it's RPS that brings the snark while PC Gamer tends to stick more with straight reporting, but sometimes they get some decent ones in.

But really, let that sink in for a bit. They're delaying a patch to fix the broken crap that was their game on release because they ostensibly care about quality control.

The funny thing is that you're missing an important word.

They're delaying their FOURTH patch to the game.

But yeah, sadly there will be plenty of gamers out there that will fall for this choice of words and actually believe Ubisoft gives any fuck whatsoever about the quality of their games. If they were even half as concerned about quality control, REAL quality control, then they wouldn't have released the game in it's horribly broken state to begin with. But sadly they care about their revenue stream 10 times as much as any illusion of quality control they claim to have.

I wonder how many people will forget what a horrible mess the disc itself is. I guess we'll have to wait until the game is no longer supported on the console versions to see how many people pick it up later on and find it's completely unplayable with no way to fix it.

A part of me is really hoping that gamers will remember this and avoid the franchise at launch next time around - and it does happen to various degrees, just not enough to have companies feel it enough to change their practices apparently.

Also, it wouldn't surprise me at all if this patch was intended at least in part to fix some shit that the first three patches fucked up that may or may not have already been broken prior to those patches. And it won't surprise me at all if this new patches ends up breaking as much as it fixes, either.
