"Another Kain bites the dust"
Yeah, Pat ranting about this on Twitter is how I first heard about it.
Anyway, I am gobsmacked... gobsmacked, I say... that this thing didn't come on like gangbusters. Oh wait, no I'm not. At all. Damn thing didn't even make it out of beta. This is basically one of those "and nothing of value was lost" sort of things, to me at least. (EDIT) Oh, and all the people in the comments under that Polygon article bawwing about how it's so terrible that the developers have lost their jobs and whiny waah and all that shit... fuck off. Just fuck right off. I'm not responsible for them. Yeah, sure, it's bad when anyone loses their job, but given that their job at that point was to make this shit, it wasn't too worthwhile a job in the first place, now was it. So yeah, it was a good thing that this game was cancelled. Good riddance, indeed. Oh, and the people in the comments there hoping that Square Enix will sell the Legacy of Kain franchise to Blizzard can also fuck right the hell off. Fuck Blizzard and fuck Square Enix both. (/EDIT)
As such, since this stupid bullshit has failed, like it was pretty much always destined to fail, in my opinion, instead of hoping that maybe now they'll start working on a proper LoK game, I'll simply say that the series had a good run, and requiescat in pace and all that. But as far as I am concerned, Legacy of Kain has been dead since Defiance, when lead writer Amy Hennig jumped ship to Naughty Dog (and has since left them for Visceral Games to work on Star Wars stuff, apparently). Anyway, the chances of anyone seeing another LoK game at this point is probably slim to none. Or, perhaps I should clarify... the chances of anyone seeing another good, or at least halfway decent LoK game at this point is probably slim to none.
Nosgoth shutting down huh? Almost like telling them to cancel that piece of shit way back would have saved them time and money. Whoops!

Oh wait, I DID tell them to shut it down! I had a day long argument with their PR guy in some GAF thread. OH WELL GUESS I WAS RIGHT

Date: 2016-04-10 05:26 pm (UTC)From:But yeah, in my opinion, the BO2 plot just takes a huge, steaming dump all over the lore built up from the previous games. Characters that died in previous games are inexplicably back in this one, and that's even when you take into account the wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey blob that is the rest of the Legacy of Kain series, even all the way back to the first Blood Omen game.
Even though I'm fairly sure Amy Hennig, the main writer for the rest of the LoK series, didn't have anything to do with Blood Omen 2, she does try to explain it and fit it in (http://www.thelostworlds.net/Defiance/Question_and_Answer_with_Amy_Hennig.html) later on. I guess I can buy that the way Kain and Raziel fucked the timeline in Defiance could maybe lead to the events of BO2 happening the way they did... if I kind of squint and tilt my head. My best guess is that at least a part of the story of Defiance was Hennig's attempt to shoehorn the mess that is Blood Omen 2 in with the rest of the series, or at least to set it up so that BO2 could at least be possible (though apparently some of that stuff was cut out from Defiance, such as an explanation for why the fuck Vorador was still around in BO2). In any case, I guess I would recommend that if you do ever play the series again, save Blood Omen 2 for after Defiance, even though BO2 was released first.
As for me, I have all of the games, including BO2 but minus the original Blood Omen, on GOG.com, and the only thing that has stopped me from trying to replay the series as a whole again is the lack of BO1. I may just breakdown and pirate the PC version of BO1 at some point, or the PS1 BO1 and play that on an emulator or something, though I'd much rather buy the PC version legit, preferably from GOG, if it were to ever show up on there. >_> My best guess as to why BO1 isn't available anywhere is that Denis Dyack and what used to be Silicon Knights are still buttmad and are just being dicks about the whole thing.
