(EDIT) The only Apple product I have on my computer at the moment is QuickTime. Actually, I just uninstalled that as well, since I don't want anything at all to do with Apple, after this. (/EDIT) Every time the updater thing used to pop up and nag me to install iTunes and such shit as well, whenever it updated QuickTime, I'd always just roll my eyes and uncheck it. Man am I so glad I did that now, and didn't actually let it install that malware.

"For about ten years, I've been warning people, 'hang onto your media. One day, you won't buy a movie. You'll buy the right to watch a movie, and that movie will be served to you. If the companies serving the movie don't want you to see it, or they want to change something, they will have the power to do so. They can alter history, and they can make you keep paying for things that you formerly could have bought. Information will be a utility rather than a possession. Even information that you yourself have created will require unending, recurring payments just to access.'

"When giving the above warning, however, even in my most Orwellian paranoia I never could have dreamed that the content holders, like Apple, would also reach into your computer and take away what you already owned. If
Taxi Driver is on Netflix, Netflix doesn’t come to your house and steal your Taxi Driver DVD. But that's where we're headed. When it comes to music, Apple is already there."

Fuck Apple, super-duper hard.

Yeah, I read about that happening recently. Never bothered predicting that since I never gave Apple a chance to begin with - I always avoided itunes and ipods/iphones/ieverythings.

But.

This certainly means no mac in the future for me. I could imagine a time when Apple forces all their products onto all paid-for macs. Heck, would probably be shoved out with every OS update. (Microsoft is showing the world how much people are willing to tolerate with Windows 10 after all.)

I can't see myself missing apple products either. I mean... I've gotten along -just- fine without them. And the alternatives leave enough money in the pocket to actually buy something else.

And this just re-affirms my determination not to touch itunes for purchasing music. So if any indie musicians (mainly vocaloid artists) want my cash, they'd best stick to bandcamp and the like.

Unrelated note since I don't feel like doing a post myself right now.

Regarding your note...

So yeah, basically, it looks like I was right when I said (http://owsf2000.livejournal.com/128085.html?thread=215637#t215637) the thing about how the "paid" versions essentially wouldn't be any different from the "free" version (which won't be "free" for much longer!) as far as still having the forced, unwanted bullshit being dictated to end users by Micro$hit.

There are also the "Enterprise" versions, which are mainly intended just for large businesses and which cost fucktons more than the "Home" or "Pro" versions tend to do. For reference, Windows 10 "Home" costs/will cost $119 and "Pro" costs $199, but they've always been cagey as fuck about how much the "Enterprise" versions cost, even back with Win7. I know that for single users it used to be in the multiple hundreds or possibly even multiple thousands of dollars, depending on if you got one of the super high end "server" editions or whatever the fuck, and I seriously doubt that that has changed with Win10 (though there's no easy way to find out how much the "Enterprise" versions actually cost now). In any case, I wonder how much Micro$hit will be dictating to businesses using those "Enterprise" versions how they'll be allowed to use the OS. But then, of course, big business has always had more sway than standard ass little guy end users ever did when it comes to shit like this (*insert appropriate quip about the US government here*).

Well, whatever, Windows 7 isn't completely unusable yet, and hopefully won't be for a while still, but... Linux is still looking better and better all the time, even so.
