"Viz owns rights for future distribution, production, licensing, products following Rooster Teeth's closing"

Okay, I guess that's good, considering that the alternative is that RWBY would be dead and gone, otherwise...

...but considering the shitshow state of Homestuck[1] after the distribution rights for it were similarly "acquired" by Viz Media, this news doesn't exactly make me want to run out and set off fireworks or anything. Basically, if you want to go through OG Homestuck these days, the best way to do that is still to download the Unofficial Homestuck Collection (which is a fanmade browser along with an asset pack), rather than try to actually use the official Homestuck website (which is changed/broken from the way it was originally intended to be, due to Flash going the way of the dinosaur). And good fucking luck trying to get your hands on any of the Homestuck physical books these days.

Well, anyway, to get back to RWBY, if Viz makes more of it (or, perhaps more accurately, pays the original team to make more of it) and actually completes the series, I might pick it back up and watch the rest of it someday, but as it stands now, I still haven't watched past volume 6 yet.

(Also, I guess my "rooster teeth" tag should be deprecated now, but I'll probably just keep using it for RWBY stuff instead of giving it its own tag. *shrug*

Also, also, it appears that I haven't even given Homestuck its own tag yet. Huh. *shrug* *shrug*)

(EDIT) People in the comments under the articlein the ANN forums are like, "man, Viz should kick everyone involved and just totally reboot and remake RWBY, it's so old now." To that, I can only respond with "Fuck off the edge of my dick," as Matt used to say (and maybe still does for all I know). Seriously, I remember when remaking movies from like a century ago was a huge deal, but now people want remakes of things that only first came out like barely a decade ago and (more importantly) haven't even been finished in their original incarnation yet. Truly, fuck right off. (/EDIT)

[1] - And I'm talking about just the original Homestuck, not the Epilogues or Beyond Canon or the rest.

Full headline: "Indie developer makes his game free after Warner unceremoniously tells him they're 'retiring' it from Steam and the PlayStation Store"

More Glorious Digital Future horseshit, in other words.

Now, ordinarily I would've ranted about that here for a bit[1], except that I only just found out now, for the first time, via comments under the above PC Gamer article, that apparently WB is shutting down Rooster Teeth, too. Which I guess means RWBY is very likely dead as shit and will never be finished, or so I can only assume.[2] Oh well. Kind of glad now I never bothered to catch back up with it after I watched the first few seasonsvolumes several years ago. *shrug + weary sigh*

(Kind of surprised that I didn't already have a "warner bros sucks" tag before now. Huh. Well, guess I have to go and back tag some posts noweventually whenever I feel like getting around to it. [Which, I am pretty certain, is a thing that only I even remotely care about. *shrug*])

[1] - Even though Small Radios Big Televisions is not a game I'd ever heard of prior to this post and in which I have very little interest in playing even if it is free[3], it's the general principle of the matter that a video game publisher can just arbitrarily decide to "retire" a video game, apparently because they just don't want to bother with paying someone to process royalties to its creator anymore or whatever dumbfuckery, that abstractly pisses me off.

[2] - And despite the fact that I'm seeing vague rumors from randos online that RWBY really isn't dead, because of reasons, I'm not going to believe any of it until I actually see concrete news that the next seasonsvolumes of RWBY really are complete and available to watch (even if that "availability" is only via Crunchyroll or whatever, which basically makes it not "available" to me, as I'm not paying for fucking Crunchyroll just to watch RWBY).

[3] - That said, it's only 158 MB, so I went ahead and downloaded it, regardless, so maybe I actually will try it someday, assuming I even remember later that I downloaded it. *shrug*[4]

[4] - Yeah, this is one of those posts. ¬_¬

"The Red vs. Blue creator says it can make more ad money streaming exclusively from its website than on YouTube."

Advertising (and, more importantly, the increasingly obnoxious ways creators contort themselves to chase that sweet, sweet advertising money) was the worst thing to ever happen to Youtubethe Internetthe world in general.

(EDIT) Not that it actually matters/d to me in this particular case, since whenever I watched Red vs Blue or RWBY or whatever, it was always on Rooster Teeth's site and not Youtube to start with. That said, I use an ad blocker, because Internet ads are time-wasting and loathsome at best, or literally malicious (e.g. potential virus vectors) at worst, so I don't and won't see ads at all, either on Youtube or on Rooster Teeth's site.

And, for what it's worth, regardless of the reasons for doing so, having the ability to tell Youtube to piss off and do your own thing isn't necessarily a bad thing, either, because Youtube in general is increasingly becoming a trashfire website. That said, however, I think Rooster Teeth is probably going to lose viewers over this, via the simple fact that people who only ever watch shit on Youtube aren't going to know or find out who Rooster Teeth is or what Red vs Blue is in the first place. There's also the fact that people in the comments under the article are saying shit like "Well, I pay for Youtube Premium, which doesn't have ads, so why would I switch to watching their shit with ads when I didn't have to before?" (/EDIT)

Huh. That could be kinda neat maybe.

"The Justice League is facing off against a new horror: adolescence! Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, Green Lantern and Vixen are surprised to find that not only have they materialized on a strange world called Remnant, but they’ve also been transformed into teenagers. Meanwhile, the heroes of Remnant – Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang – find their world has been mysteriously altered. Can the combined forces of the Justice League and Team RWBY return Remnant to normal before a superpowered Grimm destroys everything they know?"

That reminds me, again, that I should probably someday get back into watching RWBY (massive spoiler warning for the comments under that post), considering that I pretty much stopped watching it after I got caught up to the then current end of Season/Volume 6, but they've made a couple more after that. *shrug*

S8E01

But then, I haven't even watched any of volume 7 at all, yet, so... *shrug*

(EDIT) Oh, and there's also apparently a new season of Red vs Blue on the way as well? (/EDIT)

Just finished (current) season 17 of Red vs Blue.

For right now, all I want to say is that of all the dramatic shit that went on, Agent Washington's condition during season 16 was legitimately difficult for me to watch, for personal, real life reasons. His condition wasn't identical to (or as severe as) what I had to watch others be afflicted with IRL, but it was... close enough... :( I'm glad that they didn't try to play it up for humor and had the other characters (i.e. Carolina) be appropriately affected by it. (Well, for the most part, anyway, aside from the comical exacerbation of it due to time travel shenanigans where he ended up being exploited by Dr. Grey and invented the funeral cannon or whatever, but I guess I can forgive that.)

Aside from that, though, it was pretty epic and cool and funny, I guess. (I might edit this later and go more in depth into it. We'll see. Don't hold your breath, though.)

I wonder which Rooster Teeth series I should try next, given that I've seen all the way through Red vs Blue and RWBY now (minus what there is of volume 7 of RWBY so far, as I'll likely just wait until the whole thing is out and then binge it). I'll probably go through most of everything on the site, eventually, at least of the major animated stuff that they've done, anyway. (For now, I have little interest in the live action stuff and definitely have no interest in the podcast stuff or whatever.)

That said, I've been seeing the smoke from a lot of potential behind-the-scenes fires regarding Rooster Teeth lately, and, apparently, RT has been "dying" for the past several years now, depending on whichever random asshole you might see on Reddit or Youtube or whatever, so I may just take a break from the whole thing altogether for a little while and do something else with my time. Last thing I want to do is to start getting too invested in something that may very well just implode within the next year or so. Already gone through too much similar shit in the recent past. I dunno. *shrug*

Huh... Red vs Blue with custom Monty Oum animations seems really weird, after watching seven seasons of... you know... not that.

So, yeah, I'm watching Red vs Blue now, and I just started season 8. I very vaguely recall watching the first season way back when it first came out in 2004 or whenever and then just losing interest in it, mainly because I didn't (and still don't) give a fuck about Halo. It has definitely gotten better further in, though. That said, I likely wouldn't be watching this now if I hadn't already watched RWBY first, and then found out that a lot of the same voice actors are in RvB as well (which, I guess, kind of makes sense that that would be the case, in retrospect).

(Copy/pasted, with edits/updates, from a post I made to Facebook three days ago and, for some reason, forgot to copy/paste to here, until now. I'll probably post again when I finish through season six.)

I finally got around to (I feel like I say that a lot...) starting RWBY yesterday last Friday. About halfway into the first season. Just finished season two. I have no idea why I never watched this before now, and this is coming from a guy who loved Haloid and the Dead Fantasy series.

RIP Monty Oum 2015.

(EDIT) Oh, and I suppose I should put a massive "SPOILER ALERT" warning here for the comments below. Scroll down at your own risk. (/EDIT)
