So, I was looking at a game on Steam.

I was like "Huh, this looks kind of interesting," so I added it to my wishlist.

Then I scrolled down a bit and saw:

"Notice: The Alliance Alive HD Remastered requires a controller in order to play. Playing with a keyboard and mouse isn't supported."

I immediately opened up my wishlist and deleted this game from it. (This also made me completely lose any vague interest I may have had in continuing to peruse the current NISA sale on Steam, as well. And it prompted me to block an asshole on the Steam forums when I went there to confirm that the game doesn't support keyboard+mouse. Why morons continue to insist on trying to trollishly defend the indefensible I'll never know.)

Anyway, I've ranted about this before, and I still think it is a dumbshit move on the part of video game developers to release games for PC that do not support the main means of input and control on a PC. I don't give a single flying fuck if it is "just a port" or whatever, it should still support keyboard+mouse. I do not have a gamepad/controller, I have zero interest in getting a gamepad/controller, and if your PC game requires a gamepad/controller, then it may as well be a game that does not exist, as far as I am concerned. The only way I will get a controller in the future is if I buy a console that goes with it, at which point I would be playing games on that console with that controller, and not on a PC.

(EDIT) This also reminds me that I never bothered to go back to Indivisible either... so... I'll get right on that... any minute now... ... ...yeah, I'm probably not going to (re)start playing that any time soon. ¬_¬ (/EDIT)

"Just a port" is actually more accurately "Just a lazy ass cash grab" if they can't even update the input controls. Consider the reverse situation - a PC game being ported to a console without supporting the console's controller.

If the console user tries to complain you could just go "It's just a port."

I block 99% of what comes out of NISA anyway even on consoles since they're horrible DLC Whores. The couple of times I've let myself buy their crap in the last 4-5 years I ended up being disappointed even if I liked the games themselves.

1. Utawarerumono Zan - the DLC Whoring choices with locking out actual gaemplay (entire levels of the main game, etc)

2. Ys VIII - the horrible localization that had to be completely redone. Luckily after fan backlash they did go back and do it, but now I have a PS4 disc that has the original horrible localization if I ever want to play the game after the patch becomes unavailable.

This being said I do plan on picking up Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen when it releases (Apparently it looks like March 1st is the release date after all rather than Jan 3rd). I'm hoping this is a very low risk gamble since they're just porting an old game that's been redone. Any DLC Whoring they could really try here should be completely avoidable much like the DLC on the Mask of Truth and Mask of Deception games in the series.

After that it's back on the boycott list with them, probably for years to decades as I don't really know of any other game they could possibly release that would make me drop the boycott again. Well, maybe a Ys IX if/when it comes out and they end up getting the publishing rights to it.

Really is a fucking shame they're such an overall shitty company in terms of quality and DLC use. They still release limited edition style games that I would otherwise snap up on impulse without even knowing fuck all about the game itself. Perhaps I should thank them for helping me to save money. :P
