To whom it may concern[1], my Facebook account is no more, just to let you know.

There finally came a straw-camel's-back moment which I won't be discussing here, and as a result, I finally decided that it was simply more aggravation than it was worth to continue wasting my time on FB (and I'd already been teetering on the edge of that moment for years by this point), so... yep, it's gone now. I finally pulled the trigger on the shit I'd been off-and-on vaguely musing about doing for literally years now. Good riddance. (Well, it's as "gone" as anything online can be, especially when dealing with big, soulless corporations that like to keep everything you post no matter what you do, even if you pick "permanent deletion" as I did as opposed to merely "deactivation.")

On the bright side, maybe I'll start using this Dreamwidth page more often now (and not merely as a dumping ground for posts that I'd made first on Facebook). I dunno. *shrug*

Also, another result of this is that my life will (or so I hope) include substantially fewer asinine memes (even taking into account that I'd already been blocking/hiding-with-FB-Purity dozens of meme pages as I saw them, and yet the deluge just kept on coming on a daily basis). That's definitely another tick in the plus column. The memes aren't why I deleted my Facebook, mind you, but losing those is still an overall net gain.

And I'll probably see less Trumpish horseshit, too, which would be nice. Of course, the Trumpish horseshit will still be happening, obviously, it's just that I'll be aware of less of it sans Facebook. It's not like it's going to change how I vote in November (i.e. against Trump), regardless, so I could stand to see a whole lot less of that horseshit, that's for sure. (And... likely not surprising, but Trumpish horseshit was something that did play a factor in my decision to delete my FB profile [similar to Twitter], but that's all I'm going to say about it here.)

So, aside from (potentially) using Dreamwidth more, what will I do with the time that I'd have otherwise spent on Facebook? Maybe I'll actually try to write some more, as that's something I've been neglecting all too much lately (if, of course, you define "lately" as "the past several years"). And/or maybe I'll read more. But most realistically and pessimistically, though, I'll probably just waste the extra time on more video games and Youtube shit. >_>;;

[1] - Of the three people who are able to see this post, given that I have friend-locked it, but then, since [personal profile] owsf2000 is the only one who even still reads my journal here anymore in the first place, at least as far as I am aware, I guess it wouldn't have actually mattered if I'd just left it public. For what it's worth, the only two people left[2] who I'd even care to still be in contact with from FB are, not coincidentally, the other two who are also on my access list here. Well... no, there are a few others who I'll probably also miss... but not enough so that I'm willing to continue using Facebook. That also doesn't even include stuff like Wil Wheaton's posts on there or Dan Rather's or Anne Rice's or the other celebrities I was also following on FB (not counting ones like George Takei, who I'd been perpetually snoozing for at least the past two years or so, since about 99% of his posts were about Trump, and especially given that it wasn't even always Takei himself posting stuff). Oh well, I haven't really missed the vast majority of the celebrity stuff I lost when I dropped Twitter, so I expect it to be much the same with Facebook, too.

[2] - Aside from family, with whom I have other means to communicate besides goddamn Facebook, even if Facebook seems to have become the preferred method of communication for most of them, unfortunately.
